Why: This summer I will
be spending ten weeks in
Valparaíso, Chile,
working with the YMCA youth
programs in town. Some of our time spent there
will be working to repair the YMCA facility after it
suffered damage from the earthquake, but most of
our time will be dedicated to a handful of youth
programs that vary in age, group and purpose.
Some groups are for troubled teenagers, others are
foster homes, while others are more of a daycare
facility. School supplies in this area of Chile are
three to four times more expensive than they are in
the United States and many children go without.
Thank you for all of your contributions through
Hope’s Helpers, support, and prayers as I travel
with five other Valparaiso University students to
make this journey to Chile.

Have you ever wanted to donate a special gift, either as an
outright gift or perhaps to honor or memorialize someone, to
Hope Lutheran? Here is an opportunity for you to purchase an
item whether small or large. A Hope(ful) List has been compiled
of non-budgetary items requested by various committees, Council,
and staff. Since these are specific requests, we ask that you not
purchase the item directly but rather donate the cost. In addition,
this allows the donor the proper tax deduction. Please do not feel
that you have to donate the entire amount for a gift, any amount
you can donate will be greatly appreciated.

FREE SEMINAR ON HEALTH AND
WEIGHT MANAGEMENT SCHEDULED
Members of the congregation are invited to attend a
free workshop titled “Health, Stress and Weight
Management” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, here
at Hope Lutheran. The program will be presented
by Conan J. Shaw B.S., D.C., C.N.C, a Cranberry
Township-based chiropractor and clinical
nutritionist.
Dr. Shaw will focus on the biochemistry and
science of overall optimal health, weight loss and
the role of stress in weight gain. In his 12 years of
practice, Dr. Shaw has focused on clinical nutrition,
helping people treat disease through diet change and
vitamin therapies. He also sees a significant
amount of patients who are managing their weight.
“I strive to have people truly understand the reason
for their health concerns,” Dr. Shaw said. “I am
focused on education about disease and true
correction of the cause of disease, and that’s what
we’ll talk about during my program at Hope.”

fighting cancer right here in Cranberry Twp. and surrounding

**Over 203 people will be told "YOU HAVE CANCER". The
American Cancer Society can help all of them!
**Over 1,900 people will find answers to their questions about
cancer at 1-800-ACS-2345 and cancer.org.
**54 people will have a place to stay while receiving
treatment away from home.
**27 people will receive help paying for their cancer-related
medications and transportation.
**4 cancer patients will receive rides to their treatments
through the Road to Recovery Program.
**6 women going through treatment will learn how to care for
changes in their skin and hair, and will regain their self-
confidence through the Look Good, Feel Better Program.
**9 people will learn more about treatment options, managing
side effects and financial concerns through the I Can Cope
Program.
**4 women recently diagnosed with breast cancer will receive
emotional support from someone who's survived the disease
through the Reach to Recovery program.
**8 people became members of the American Cancer Society
Action Network, helping us fight back against cancer every
day.
**22 people will get the assistance they need to quit smoking
by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
**1 man will get the emotional support he needs to fight back
against prostate cancer through the Man to Man Program.
**$100,000 in American Cancer Society research will be
conducted looking for new treatment options and potential
cancer breakthroughs.
2) Start selling 50/50 Mega Raffle Tickets which will go
towards your personal fundraising efforts (email me for

3) Join Hope's Golf Tournament Committee by emailing me or
Sue Grabowski, so you can help plan the event.
4) Take a more active role in helping our Team get organized
and energized by emailing me or Sue to find out how you can
help.
5) Join Sue and I at Cranberry Relay's monthly meetings. Our
next one is on Wed, May 5 at the Municipal Center.
6) Go to Pizza Hut, at the Adams Shoppes in Mars 4/25 with a
Fundraiser flyer from the Relay Website. Proceeds benefit

7) Go to Applebee’s in Cranberry on 4/27 with a Fundraiser

8) Sign up for the 2nd Annual Bark For Life Relay and take
your dog with you to Zelienople on May 22. Info online at

9) Offer to help with a fundraiser booth at Bark For Life that
will benefit OUR team fundraising or offer to help with our
