Quarter 1 Objectives

Reading:
Vocabulary:
• Use text clues such as words or pictures to discern meaning of unknown words
• Use vocabulary from other content areas
Fiction:
• Organize and record info by using graphic organizers such as charts and maps
• Retell stories and events using beginning, middle, and end and including key
details
• Describe characters, setting, and important events
• Make connections before, during, and after reading text
• Make and confirm predictions
• Preview the selection and set a purpose for reading
Non-fiction:
• Use simple reference materials to gain information

• Identify and use text features such as pictures, headings, charts, and captions

Writing:
Writes to communicate ideas for a variety of purposes
