Questions:
1. What is the significance of the research articles you have chosen to your Related Learning
Experience?

These articles first and foremost might help me appreciate more my exposure to the
area where in concepts in orthopedic nursing are being applied. These articles are significant
because it both tackle the knowledge and the implications of the nursing practice in the Field
of Orthopedic nursing. More importantly, the other article gives insights about the
shortcomings of student nurses and how it would affect their career in the future. these
articles will help me improve the quality of care that I am to give to my patients who happen
to have orthopedic problems and will give us more knowledge on how to properly manage
the patients’ condition and at the same time providing safety and comfort. Both articles also
gave importance to the role of the nurse in terms of patient care and education. They also
gave some important functions of the nurse in managing Osteoporosis which is a common
and known orthopedic disease.

2. What are the implications of the findings to your patient care?

Both studies talk about the important role of the nurse in the care of the client with
Osteoporosis. The nurse needs to go about as a key component in the health care team,
Managing and assessing patients with Osteoporosis. According to one of the articles,
nurses are key to the success of these interdisciplinary efforts. They are positioned to take
the lead in addressing this issue by assessing bone health and osteoporosis risk factors in all
age groups and in all settings. The Responsibilities of the nurse in the care of patient with
Osteoporosis is not limited only in giving the patient optimum care but also the nurse ought to
educate the patient who currently have the disease and the patient who are at risk on having
it.

3. What interventions/innovations/relevant new findings was/were used or implemented in the

study/studies reviewed?

The first and second studies are not entirely different considering they look into how we
can provide the best care for those who are suffering from Osteoporosis. They both refer to
ways in which we can take care for patients appropriate to their conditions. Both studies
pointed out that the role of the nurse is indeed essential in providing specialized care,
critical judgment and meticulous assessment is vital in completing the care and the
assistance needed by patients with Osteoporosis. No specific interventions, innovations nor
new findings were mentioned in the studies but it was emphasized the vital functions which
include enhancing patients’ knowledge about osteoporosis and promoting behavior change.
Specific nursing actions include: providing patient education across the lifespan about bone
health and prevention of osteoporosis and fractures, including discussing strategies to
ensure bone health in adolescents as well as young adults and older patients; assessing
patients’ risk for low bone density or osteoporosis; providing education to patients with or at
risk of osteoporosis and their families about pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic
treatment strategies; educating patients and their family caregivers about the risk for falling
and strategies to prevent falls at home; assessing the risk factors for falls and implementing
strategies during a patient’s hospitalization to decrease the risk of falls and fracture in those
with or at risk for osteoporosis; providing nursing care for patients at risk for complications of
osteoporosis; and promoting adherence to medication and lifestyle changes (Smetlzer, S. et
al.,, 2014) Also, nurses need to tailor their educational interventions to the culture,
language, and needs of specific ethnic groups since patient education is essential in
improving patients’ outcome.

4. Identify which level of evidence does the selected researches belong:

Both studies are in Level V because the Evidences used came from systematic reviews
of descriptive and qualitative studies.

5. Create a table and answer the following questions to compare the two studies that you have
identified:

answer using other relevant references?
As stated in Fundamentals of Nursing by Kozier, one of the roles of a nurse is a
caregiver, in that they assist the client physically and psychologically while preserving the
clients dignity. We can achieve this role by applying both of the findings of the article in order
to look into how we can provide the best care for those who are suffering from an infectious
disease. As stated earlier, many measures needed to prevent or minimize bone loss are
within the scope of nursing. All patients deserve to learn about the often preventable risks of
osteoporosis so that they can live their lives with the quality of life they desire. Another
function of the nurse is to be an educator, Research has shown that although patient
education is necessary to affect behavior change, it is not sufficient (Smetlzer, S. et al.,2014).
The article wanted to convey that along with patient education, assessment should be done
to know if the patient is at risk so they would know the plan of care.

7. Would this practice change/improve process of patient care? How about patient outcomes?
This practice will definitely further improve the way we care for our patient’s, and it will
also improve the patient’s outcome after care. it is clear how important healthcare providers
are well-aware of reasonable knowledge on osteoporosis, because they are at the forefront
of such management. However, no study has been yet assessed in the knowledge on
osteoporosis among healthcare providers particularly in nurses.

8. Write a synthesis of the article read.

Both articles convey that nurses need to have an adequate breadth and depth of
knowledge about osteoporosis and its treatment. In order to provide accurate information about
medications prescribed to treat osteoporosis, nurses must also be knowledgeable about the
correct method of administration. Nurses need to tailor their educational interventions to the
culture, language, and needs of specific ethnic groups. Nurses have a major role in prevention,
assessment, and teaching related to osteoporosis.
