MATEMÁTICAS APLICADAS II.

FACULTAD DE QUÍMICA.
SERIE DE PROBLEMAS 1.

a) Consider the two steps kinetic process:

𝑘1
𝐴→𝐵
𝑘2
𝐵→𝐶
This kinetic process might represent radioactive decay of a chemical reaction. The ODE (Ordinary
Differential Equation) describing this system are:
𝑑𝐴
= −𝑘1 𝐴
𝑑𝑡
𝑑𝐵
= 𝑘1 𝐴 − 𝑘2 𝐵
𝑑𝑡
𝑑𝐶
= −𝑘2 𝐵
𝑑𝑡
Where 𝑘1 and 𝑘2 are the rate constants. Solve the first equation for A and substitute the result
into the equation for B. Try to solve C also.

b) Solve:
𝑑𝑦
𝐿 + 𝑅𝑦 = 𝐸0
𝑑𝑡
c) Solve:
The speed of a body falling through air experiences a resistance that is function of its speed.
Newton’s equation can be written as:
𝑑𝑣
𝑚 = 𝑚𝑔 − 𝑓(𝑣)
𝑑𝑡
In many cases, 𝑓(𝑣) is found to be proportional to the speed. Derive an equation for 𝑣(𝑡) if
𝑓(𝑣) = 𝛼 𝑣 and that the body is initially released from rest, so that 𝑣(0) = 0.

d) Solve.
𝑑𝑥
= −4𝑥 + 𝑦 + 𝑧
𝑑𝑡
𝑑𝑦
= 𝑥 + 5𝑦 − 𝑧
𝑑𝑡
𝑑𝑧
= 𝑦 − 3𝑧
𝑑𝑡
e) 𝑦 ′′ − 3𝑦 ′ + 4𝑦 = 2𝑒 2𝑥

f) Try to solve with the integrating factor method.

The following equation is exact :

2𝑥𝑦𝑑𝑥 + (𝑥 2 − 1)𝑑𝑦 = 0
g) Explain the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
