I've spent a bit of time collating some of the available information


about the Octavia Mk2 with regards to which oil to use, timing belt
intervals, DPFs, service schedules, brake disc sizes, etc.  I've tried
my best to ensure there aren't any errors, but if you spot any let
me know and I'll edit the info.

In the following documents and information distances are primarily

given in kilometres along with the equivalent mileage value.  This
is because the distance guidance provided by Skoda / Volkswagen
Audi Group is generally specified in kilometres, not miles.

Engines, Cambelt Intervals, DPFs, Oil Capacities and

Required Oil according to Servicing Regime

The following two PDFs contain the general info I have collated
with regards the engines that have been fitted to the Octavia Mk2
and also the VW approved oil lists.

Octavia Mk2 Engine Info:

Octavia Mk2 Engine Info.pdf

VAG Approved Oils Lists (Split by standard / viscosity spec):

Approved Oils.pdf

Oil Standards:

VW 502.00 – Fixed servicing on petrol engines

VW 504.00 – Variable / long life servicing on most petrol engines

(all 5W30)

VW 505.01 – Fixed servicing on PD diesels (don't use 505.00 as

505.01 has additional anti-wear requirements to protect cams /
lifters)

VW 507.00 – Variable / long life servicing on any diesel and fixed

servicing on any diesel fitted with a DPF (all 5W30)

Servicing Intervals

Engine Oil Change:

Petrol

Long Life / Variable - Up to every 30,000 Km (18,641 Miles) or 2

years maximum

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/320854-octavia-mk2-engines-dpfs-cambelts-oils-brakes-and-servicing-info/ 2/14
6/29/2017 Octavia Mk2 - Engines, DPFs, Cambelts, Oils, Brakes and Servicing Info - Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013) - BRISKODA

Time & Distance - Every 15,000 Km (9,320 Miles) or 1 year

Diesel

Long Life / Variable - Up to every 50,000 Km (31,068 Miles) or 2

years maximum

Time & Distance - Every 15,000 Km (9,320 Miles) or 1 year

Air Filter:

Replace every 90,000 Km / 55,923 Miles or 6 years

Cabin / Pollen Filter:

Replace every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles or 2 years

Brake fluid change intervals:

Up to MY2010 - Every 2 years

From MY2011 - Initial change at 3 years, then every 2 years

Fuel Filter:

Diesel - Replace every 90,000 Km / 55,923 Miles

Petrol - Skoda state no interval / Lifetime fit, however would

advise changing every 4 years (the fuel filter isn't expensive)

Spark Plugs:

1.8TSI and 2.0 TSI/TFSI (BZB, CDAA,BWA,CCZA) - Replace every

90,000 Km / 55,923 Miles or 6 years

All other Petrol Engines - Replace every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles

or 4 years

Haldex 4x4 Oil Change intervals:

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/320854-octavia-mk2-engines-dpfs-cambelts-oils-brakes-and-servicing-info/ 3/14
6/29/2017 Octavia Mk2 - Engines, DPFs, Cambelts, Oils, Brakes and Servicing Info - Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013) - BRISKODA

Up to MY2009 - Every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles

From MY2010 - Every 3 years

DSG (6 Speed) Oil Change interval:

Replace every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles

Alarm Sounder:

Replace every 6 years - mine didn't last that long, but in real life I
think most people only replace this when it breaks (the internal
battery in the siren tends to leak)

Battery:

Replacement recommended when the battery is 5 years old.

Brakes:

The following PDF contains tables that are based on what was
originally factory fitted, subsequent owners may have upgraded
the disc sizes (e.g. 288 to 312mm front discs) so it is always
worth measuring them to double check before ordering.

Brake info removed whilst I amend the rear brake details for the
VRS which are missing from the table.

Hopefully the above info is useful and will help with some of the
frequently asked questions in this forum.

I replaced the fuel filter on my petrol vrs (2008 model) at 6 years old &
owner

54,000miles & the petrol coming out of it was brown so filter was
overdue a change,no way would i say its a "Lifetime" filter. Worth
changing it every 4 years id say.

Briskodian
Mikey, thanks for the feedback.  The info I've posted is what is specified

by Skoda, for example, anyone having full main dealer servicing won't
ever have the fuel filter changed as part of the standard servicing
regime on a petrol engined Octavia as I understand it.

I agree however with you about it being advisable to change it, I
changed mine at around 6 years too.  I'll update my original post to put
Members
a note recommending change at 4 years.

Batteries, which are more than 5 years old, must be replaced. We
recommend you have the battery checked or replaced by a specialist

Can i ask, it states in the file above that timing belt is 180,000 km

(miles etc) but in the service book you get with the car its somthing like
60k or 5 years (vrs)

Manual Gearbox.  The book says it's a lifetime fill but you'd really want

to be changing it somewhere between 100,000km (60,000miles) and a
maximum of 160,000km (100,000miles).  Unless you're one of those
folk that really believe oil stays at it's best forever.

Car:Skoda Octavia 1.8tsi  What does your service book say?
dealer probably sends out a form mail to all owners including those with
chain drive.
200,000km / 7 years is probably right. Check your book & ring the
dealer & ask why the discrepancy. There might be a TSB reducing the
distance/time from the original specification.
PS: your post would have been more appropriate as a new thread (IMO)

Going for 8,000km now
Location:Austria
Car:Octavia HR I 80% of engine damage is during first 5-30km (depends on
ambient temp)

My servis intervals

engine oil = max 10k km - oil analysis in progress. 5W-40 for

aggressive sport driving style. Working on 10W-50 + auxiliary
heating.
gear box oil = max 30k km. experiment in progress with racing oil
75W90 >
all filters replaced. I drive about 20-30k km per year. Filters are
cheapest fuel and wear/tear saving. ALSO MOST UNDERESTIMATED
it all starts with intelligence. Start engine and idle at least 30s for
proper lubrication (auxiliary heating will improve this problem).
Never push car hard until is all on optimal temperatures. Unless,
you've oily temp gauge - I use simple procedure. Watch the
coolant temp gauge and trip distance. Once, coolant is at 90deg
C, mark the trip distance. It takes double distance/time to warm
up engine oil and four times more gear box oil. Lets say you have
driven 5km and coolant is warm, an other 5km (10km total) for
engine oil and an other 10km for gear box oil. Total 20km at about
0deg C. Austrian culture of 500m work commuting is the best way
to kill your engine/car. Shutting down engine is reverse procedure,
30s for lubrication. Turbo engines 1-5min cooling, spinning down
idle run (depending on ambient temperature and driving style). It is
easy to kill turbo in 20k km if you ignore natural laws. My turbo is
as new at 70k km of hardcore driving.

When I bought my "new" car Octavia - I wondered about 15k km oil

change interval. Previous owner used cheap **** from local authorised
garage.

Oil analysis report just came in and

RESULTS ARE CATASTROPHIC.
Members
 43
482 posts 1. no name 5W30 oil had just 10k km
Location:Austria 2. the viscosity was lower than suppose to - it was like 5W25 or so
Car:Octavia HR I 3. 4-5x more iron, aluminium, silicon and copper - oil didn't lubricate
properly and worn engine excessively
4. there were no additives left - oil was simply depleted
5. few such a changes - engine would be dead
6. suggested oil replacement interval - 5000km

As I always said - long interval changes are *******s. Decent oil keeps
additives perhaps 15k km - an enemy number one of diesel
engines/turbos is SOOT.

Premium oil replacement max. 10k km
Cheap rubbish any authorised dealer or local garage uses max. 5000km
Oil is cheap but engine replacement not ;-)

Choose wisely.
