Title: Adoption and usage of electronic banking channels among middle age and up clients of top
three private universal banks

1. Main purpose of the research:

o To provide relevant information on how middle age and elderly individuals adopt and
use various electronic channels in the Philippines.

2. How relevant is the topic to the discipline? To the industry/practitioners? To the academe?
o With the quick advances in technology now a days and the constant changing in life
style, creating a research about the electronic and mobile banking is relevant. This is
also very timely as various resources suggest that the rate of acceptance of technology
in banking by middle age and elderly people is quite low.

o The study will be beneficial to banking industry to devise and provide continually
evolving technology services to customers. Making sure that it will also cater to old
and non-tech people. Banking firm can also use the result to create a new strategy for
their Marketing team – to encourage people to use E-Banking, making their facilities
and software’s as user friendly as possible.

o As a School, UST has a social-community responsibility, the research conducted by

Ms Fami will help understand a social problem and then propose or suggest a
solution.

3. What is the original contribution of the research to the body of knowledge?

o To establish the significance of variables performance expectancy, effort
expectancy, security and media in relation to behavioral intention to adopt E-
banking channels.
o To establish significance of facilitating conditions and habit in relation to the use
of E-banking channels.
o To determine significance of relationship between behavioral intention and actual
use of E-banking channels.

4. Evaluate the appropriateness of sources of data, sampling procedures, sample size if

applicable, and statistical tools or other mode of analysis for supporting the
hypotheses/propositions of the study.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY (RES_CAL)

o Sampling unit were people having a bank account from the 3 largest banks in the
Philippines, BDO, BPI and Metrobank. The total sample size was 500, the sampling
technique used is purposive sampling method.
o Demographic details of respondents is already considered
o Sampling procedures and size used is good. Since that the 3 banks already
comprises 58% of Bank Customers. I think the researcher has covered the
important details.
