TEMPLE-BADRINATH TEMPLE

DESCRIPTION-

 Badrinath is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu and one of the four Char Dhams.
 Adi Shankaracharaya established the idol of Vishnu in the temple in 8th century, the idol is made of black
granite.
 alongside the holy Alaknanda River in Chamoli in Uttarakhand
 at the backdrop is neelkanth mountain peak situated between twin peaks nar and narayan

HISTORY-
The existence of the temple can be dated back to the Vedic period, and is known to have been turned from a
Buddhist shrine into a Hindu temple by Adi Shankara. The current structure of the temple, dedicated to Lord
Vishnu, was created by the King of Garhwal, known as the place where Lord Vishnu performed his penance.
And, in order to provide him shelter, Goddess Mahalaxmi took the form of a Badri tree, giving the name
Badarinarayan

INTERIOR-

 One enters through a tall arched gateway at the Sabha Mandap that leads to the Darshan Mandap and
finally the Garbhagriha.
 GARBHA GRIHA:
 Garbha griha is the sanctum sanctorium; the innermost chamber of the temple housing the idol of Sri
Badrinarayan seated in padmasana posture beneath a gold canopy.
 There are many other idols within the complex of Garbha Griha, amounting to nearly 15 apart from
that of the presiding deity.
 DARSHAN MANDAP:
 Darshan Mandap is the place from where Puja of the lord is done. It is in fact the worship hall.
 SABHA MANDAP:
 Sabha mandap is the hall where devotees assemble. Thus, it is the assembly hall and is comparatively
spacious.

EXTERIOR-

 The front is built of stone, with arched windows. A broad stairway leads up to a tall arched gateway,
which is the main entrance.
 The architecture bears a resemblance to a Buddhist Vihara (Temple), with the brightly painted facade
also more typical of Buddhist temples.
 Just inside is the mandapa, a large pillared hall that leads to the Garbha Graha, or main shrine area.
 The walls and pillars of the Mandapa are covered with intricate carvings.
 The Garbha Griha’s roof extends in a conical spire to a height of 15 metres with a gold gilded cupola at
the top.

OWN OPINION- The Badrinath temple is the most sacred dham of India. This temple is dedicated to Vishnu. One
side of this temple is the holy river Alaknanda. The temple is very colourful. The multicoloured temple gates have
such an alluring and magnetic effect that people get attracted to it.
