IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS

RELATED TO THE PERSONS SAFETY

This symbol appears in this manual before


any prescription specific to safety.

1. We strongly recommend that this machine service is ensured by specially trained persons, skilled and
aware of all the safety instructions.
Any other person should be kept away from the machine.

2. The training consists in pointing out the safety rules and in indicating the places where protections against
accidents have been installed.
The protection against injuries by moving parts, as well as the hazards related to the electrical circuit
should also be included in the training.
The persons working on the machine must wear safety shoes, hair protections and tight clothing.
It is highly recommended to maintain the safety notions by a continuous training.

3. The following points must regularly be checked:


S Presence and proper work of the accidents protecting systems (screen, cover, switch, etc...).
S Operators access to the safety instructions.
S Operators respect of the safety instructions.

4. The safety symbols and instructions displayed on the machine must not be removed or cancelled. In case
of removal, make sure to re‐install them.

5. It is forbidden to modify or eliminate any safety related device.

6. The machine safety devices must regularly be checked, and systematically after any mechanical or
electrical intervention having a direct or indirect incidence on the safety systems.
In case of problem or doubt, stop the machine, turn the power OFF, padlock the main switch and signal the
problem.

7. It is forbidden to intervene on the controllers programs areas other than those accessible and
programmable by means of the terminal foreseen for that purpose.

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS

RELATED TO THE PERSONS SAFETY

– IN CASE OF INTERVENTION ON THE MACHINE –

8. The machine control must be achieved by only one person at a time.

9. Any intervention of adjustment, lubrication, cleaning, repair, etc... must compulsorily be achieved on a
stopped machine.

10. The power must be turned OFF at the main switch. To avoid any un‐wished or accidental putting or the
machine under power, it is highly recommended to padlock the main switch.

11. After the power has been turned OFF, and before any intervention, it is compulsory to wait for the
pneumatic circuit emptying and for the total stopping of all the organs.

12. Any intervention on the motors or other electrical part of the electrical circuit must only be achieved by an
electrician. The electrical documentation supplied with the machine is located in the electrical box.

13. Do not intervene directly with the fingers for cleaning and for removing any lapping.
Use appropriate tools.
The persons having to touch textile fibres should wear no finger ring, nor watch, nor bracelet.

14. For the machine proper use, it was necessary to allow its work by impulses, in spite of the drafting system
protections opening.
S When using the impulse button, keep the free hand away from any organ in motion. It is also
necessary to warn any other person likely to be in the area.
S A prolonged action on the impulse button implies a machine timed work. The cylinders development
is thus limited. The interval between two impulses is also timed, in order to prevent a continuous
work by repeated impulses. To respect the safety rules in force, it is forbidden to modify those
timings.

15. The timed impulses are totally forbidden to achieve operations of adjustment, maintenance, cleaning or
for removing lapped fibres.

16. The parameters of the inverters used for controlling the machine motors must not be changed.
Their access is protected by a password.

17. In case any of those instructions is not respected, the NSC responsibility could not be engaged.

CHARACTERISTICS
GV20A

GENERALITIES

The GV20 high speed drafter has been designed in various types, namely :

– Type 548: Machine with 4 heads, delivery 2 cans 800, consequently double end.

– Type 547: Machine with 4 heads, delivery 2 cans 700, consequently double end.

– Type 528: Machine with 2 heads, delivery 2 cans 800, consequently single end.

– Type 527: Machine with 2 heads, delivery 2 cans 700, consequently single end.

EQUIPMENT
The GV20 high speed drafter has been designed to have a perfectly vertical drafting system above the cans.
It consists in the following sub‐elements :

– A control headstock, with attached electrical cabinet.

– A drafting assembly comprising two or four pinned heads, with feed cylinders, draft cylinders and delivery
guides.

– A delivery module composed of the coiler holding plate, the cans turntable as well as the cans loading cart.
The empty cans are presented to the introduction on an auxiliary plate fitted with a handling arm.
In order to increase the machine autonomy, a model with conveyor is also available.

– A filtering box for the cleaning by suction.

– An overhead type creel with a capacity of :


‐ for the types 547 and 548: 4 x 4 cans up to Ø 800 mm
‐ for the types 527 and 528: 2 x 4 cans up to Ø 1000 mm

PRACTICAL ADVICES

RUNNING‐IN
The first running‐in is achieved in our works, before dispatch.
That running‐in must be continued after the machine has been installed in its final place.

During the first 3 hours of work the speed can be progressively increased from 250 to 350 m/min.
The input speed must not exceed 60 m/min.

That speed must be respected during 12 hours of work. It is then possible to increase the cruising speed by
steps, the maxi speed being reached only after 50 hours of work.

During the running‐in, the chains driving the fallers must be oiled every 8 hours of work and their tension
checked.

During the first hours, check the machine work. In particular, make sure during that period that
no abnormal heating occurs at the level of the bearings, draft cylinders holders, feed cylinders,
draft cylinders casing and main motor.

The delivery module can be manipulated with a fork lift.

Make sure not to press on the coilers.

Ä THE DRAFTING HEADS MODULE


That assembly can be manipulated either by a crane, using the lifting rings, or by a fork lift, using the gauge
for the forks.

The assembly is unbalanced by the driving elements on the cast iron headstock side.

The assembling of the drafting heads module on the delivery module is achieved through the centerers.

REMARKS:
For the machines delivered in Europe and using cans 1000 mm high, it is possible that both elements are
dispatched already assembled.
The total weight is then:
– of 2615 kg net for the types 547 ‐ 527 ‐ 528.
– of 2920 kg net for the types 548

Ä THE DRIVING HEADSTOCK AND ELECTRICAL CABINET MODULE


That assembly, weighing 1220 kg and of dimensions : 2080 x 800 mm, with a height of 2000 mm is fitted with
a lifting beam with rings.

That assembly can also be manipulated by rolling on the floor.

Ä THE FILTERING BOX


The filtering box, weighing 290 kg and of dimensions : 800 x 800 mm, with a height of 2000 mm is fitted with
lifting rings.

It can also be manipulated by rolling on the floor.

GENERALITIES
The GV20 are supplied fitted with ”overhead” type creels installed at the rear of the machines, in order to easily
look after them from the working area.

They permit doublings 4, from cans up to dia 800 mm for the type 547 and 548 and dia 1000 mm for all the
other types.

USE
The slivers, positionnned by the guides are conveyed to the drafting system by smooth cylinders positively
driven in rotation. A detour cylinder achieves a slight tension and improves the slivers presentation.

According to the machine operational principle, the creel is filled whilst the machine is stopped.

In case of broken end or of empty can, an optical detection controls the machine stopping.

A piecening at the creel is performed whilst the machine is stopped.


When restarting the machine, the operator must beware of the rotating elements in
case the material is accompanied by hand.

At the end of a lot, in order to ease the threading out, the operator can cancel the optical checking by means
of the creel stop motion on the “Machine operation” screen.

The sliver tension between creel and feed cylinder is adjustable from -2.4% to +11.6% by means of the false
cone and pinion R5 (90 of 95 teeth) located in the headstock (see table page 28).

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE


Achieve the cleaning and checking operations whilst the machine is stopped.

The creel, like all the machine revolving elements, can eventually be polluted by flying fibres, dust, etc...

In order to avoid any incident, it is necessary to clean it regularly and to remove any beginning of lapping or
any ring of fibres around the axles.

Check that the safeties are operational.

We accept no responsability in case of accident due to the cleaning or checking of a revolving organ during
the machine work.

DRAFTING HEAD

The head consists in a rear caterpillar and a front caterpillar on which the fallers are installed. There are 28 RH
fallers and 28 LH fallers per head.

The fallers are driven by chains. The fallers work under the fully intersecting principle. This implies that all the
fibres are controlled by a same population of pins.

The faller cantilevel gives an acceleration to the pins during their motion when leaving the fibres.

The design is such that the front and rear caterpillars can easily be removed.

A system of hinge permits to open the front caterpillar and a lock keeps it closed during the work.

In case of incident during the work, the head is protected by an electrical safety stopping the machine as soon
as the front caterpillar opens.

BOTH CATERPILLARS SYNCHRONISM


The synchronism of both caterpillars is ensured by the meshing of two gears. If, after intervention, the
synchronism is no longer guaranteed, it is necessary to operate the machine by impulses by means of the
impulse button on the control panel.

FRONT CATERPILLAR OPENING


The opening is achieved by pressing the lock down and pulling the handle. That opening permits to access
to both the front and rear pinned fields, to allow a very convenient cleaning, a lubrication or a mechanical
intervention.
The safety (see page 51), activated by the caterpillar opening prevents the machine operation. It is however
possible to give timed impulses by means of the impulse push button on the control panel located under the
caterpillar. That possibility permits to remove a lapping from behind the rear caterpillar or to change the fallers
without dismantling the caterpillar. The impulse button is operational only if the doors on drafting system are
opened.

It is always dangerous to operate the machine under such conditions.

FRONT CATERPILLAR CLOSING


When closing, in case an intervention has been achieved, it is possible that both caterpillars have been
desynchronized. The front caterpillar should therefore not be ”slammed” when being closed. Just push the
front caterpillar whilst pushing the impulse button.

Remove the nut whilst holding the caterpillar.
Take the caterpillar out.

FALLERS AND CHAINS

The fallers are built in RH and in LH version with on one side a special slot in which is housed a lock which
can be slid. On the other side, the faller has two holes.

The chains, located both sides of the caterpillar, are used to drive the fallers by means of the projecting axles.

CHAIN POSITIONING ON SPROCKET


The gear and the sprocket are positioned by a key on the axle (1).

The chain positioning must be achieved as shown on the drawing.

On one side, the axles (2a) and (2b) located in a same external chain plate must be located on each side of
the tooth corresponding to the mark (hole dia 5) on the chain sprocket.

On the other side, the axles (3a) and (3b) located in a same internal chain plate must be located on each side
of the tooth corresponding to the mark.

FALLERS INSTALLATION
– Slide the lock in the faller slot, such a way that the assembly can pass between the chains axles.

– Lubricate the 3 holes receiving the chain axles.

– Introduce the end of a RH faller on the axles of one same plate of the LH chain.
(see also drawing pages 54 and 55).

– Temporarily slide the lock towards the exterior till it penetrates completely in the RH chain.

– Introduce the end of a LH faller on the two axles of one same plate of the RH chain, just above the chain
previously fitted.

– Move the lock such a way that the bent end, acting as a stop, is on the external side.

– For installing the last faller, it is necessary to slide‐in the lock of the faller having been installed the first.

– The last faller is easy to install if the installation is achieved at a place where the chains turn.

– Do not forget to lock the first faller with its lock.

FALLERS DISMANTLING
To remove a faller, proceed in the way opposite to the one for installing the last faller:

– Move the lock in the faller to be removed, by means of the plier.


Proceed the same way for the following faller, which locks the faller end.

– Remove the faller.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE CATERPILLAR CHAINS TENSION

Switch off the current by means of the main switch.

In order to ensure a good longevity to the chains, their tension must be properly adjusted.
– When the chain has got some play, free the slide block by unlocking the screws (1) and (2).
– With a wrench (1) placed in the slot, operate the tightener in order to slacken the chain as much as possible.
– Insert a 5 mm Allen wrench (2) between the chain and the slide block which guides the chain.
– Tighten the chain by operating the tightener with the wrench (1) placed in the slot.
– Tighten the screws and remove the 5 mm Allen wrench (2) placed under the chain.
– Proceed the same way for each side of the caterpillars.

CATERPILLARS MAINTENANCE
To guarantee a long term caterpillars good work, it is necessary to clean them regularly. About every 400 hours,
remove a few fallers, clean inside the caterpillar, check the chains play, the condition of the fallers and of their
locking devices.
Remove the greasy deposits on fallers with a gentle solvent.
Check the pins condition.

REPINNING OF THE GV20 FALLERS

GENERALITIES

The repinning of a faller body is possible several times.

The repinning frequency is estimated to be between a minimum of once every 12 months and a maximum of
once every 24 months or more, depending on the processed materials and the passage.

PRINCIPLE OF PINNING BY PRESSED‐IN INSERTS


The GV20 fallers bodies are designed to receive pressed‐in polyamide inserts.

A manual apparatus, described in the following pages, permits an easy unpinning and repinning of the fallers.

Different types of inserts are available. The fallers bodies have no indication of the installed pins density; that
information is given by a system of insert colour code.

The apparatus is excluively for the repinning of GV fallers (model 11, 11/7, 11/8, 20).

It comprises a basement, two extremity holders (1) and (2), one presser and one lever to be introduced in the
presser canon.

The apparatus must be carried with both hands, being firmly held at the level of the basement.

For its transportation, the apparatus must be free from any accessory.

MAINTENANCE
The apparatus must be kept clean, particularly the rules in contact with the pins.

A slight lubrication of the axles of the presser must periodically be achieved.

UNPINNING
Tighten firmly the faller in a vice the jaws of which are fitted with protection.

Introduce the unpinning tool at the slot extremity, the point getting under the pinned strip.
With the help of a wood hammer, get the strip away.

For that operation, it is compulsory to wear


safety glasses and gloves.

PINNING
Place the apparatus between the jaws of a vice.
– Install the rule corresponding to the pinned strip to be mounted.
– Introduce the pinned strip in the rule, the pins turned downwards.
– Place the faller to be pinned on the pinned strip, the faller slot turned downwards and the faller end being
against the extremity support.
– Press the faller by pulling on the lever in the arrow direction.
– Lift the lever till its rear stop position and remove the pinned faller.

CHECKING
After the faller removal, it is important to visually check the proper pinned strip introduction. The strip must show
no edge. The strip must project 0.1 to 0.3 mm out of the faller body on the front part and be completely in the
faller at the rear.
A slight crushing of the polyamide body around the pins is not prejudicial to the faller work.

For a good material presentation in the head, it is necessary to have:


. A progressive and not brutal condensing,
. A perfect alignment of all the condensers and guides.

– It is the condenser (1) at the head entry which conditions the other condensers adjustment.
That feed condenser is interchangeable and supplied in the following widths:

PRESSURE ON DRAFT CYLINDERS

The pressure on draft cylinders is given by a ram controlled by a mini valve accessible when opening the door
of the corresponding head (see photo). The force applied by each pressure cylinder is of 110 daN for a
pneumatic pressure of 4 bars, adjustable in the pneumatic cabinet by the pressure reducer fitted on the
electrovalve. The pressure checking is achieved by a manocontact which stop the machine if the pressure
drops below 3 bars.

The higher is the force applied on the cylinders,


the higher is the rubber heating and wear.

SAFETY ON DRAFT CYLINDERS

WORKING PRINCIPLE
The contact plate is mounted such a way that it can slip on the block connected to the sensor. When the
pressure cylinder is removed, the spring brings the sensor to the front, the plate comes in low stopping and
the slippage catches the play.

When placing the pressure cylinder, the contact plate comes in high position, against the nylon stop, and
stops. The sensor continues to move back till the pressure cylinder rests against the draft cylinders. All the
plate play has thus been brought towards the low part. That play is fixed at 3 mm.

In case of lapping or of thick part, the plate


moves down and comes in contact with the
inox sheel which establishes the electrical
contact which stops the machine.

In case of thin place, the pressure cylinder


moves forward, the contact plate remains
against the nylon stop and adjusts itself on
the new distance. At the end of the thin place,
the plate moves down again and comes in
contact with the sheet, which stops the
machine.

It is then necessary to reset the safety (see


photo).

The pressure on feed cylinder is given by two springs housed in the feed cylinder shutter.

The adjustment achieved in our works corresponds to a total force of 33.5 daN on the pressure cylinder.

That adjustment consists in putting the two pressure screws against the plates.

The pressure on feed cylinder can be increased by screwing the two screws of the same value.

One turn of both screws corresponds to a pressure increase of 2 daN.

If the pressure cylinder Ø 80 has been regrinded by more than one millimeter, the pressure adjustment must
be modified. For this, screw the screws in order to reduce the length L by a value equal to half the pressure
cylinder diameter reduction. One turn of screw corresponds to 1 mm.

The suction cleaning of each head is achieved by
two collectors:

– 1 “front collector” located in the door. It cleans the

Ä General adjustment
A general adjustment of the suction is possible by the action on a drawer more or less closing the suction
airflow.

In order to ensure a minimum flow in the circuits, each collector is fitted with an adjustable aperture.
By increasing the aperture, the suction effect on fibres proper is decreased.

MAINTENANCE

Ä Filtering box maintenance


Empty the filtering box as soon as the fly reaches an important height in it.
The dust on filtering panels must be removed with a small brush or with a vaccuum cleaner.

When completely cleaning the installation, it is recommended to replace the dirty filters by clean ones and to
achieve the filters cleaning outside the room. That way of proceeding has two advantages: no time loss and
no pollution on machines.

Ä Collectors maintenance
Depending on the materials being processed, the rubber scrapers of the various collectors can accumulate
greasy deposits or dyestuffs. It is then necessary to regularly clean them with a solvent.

Ä Main duct maintenance


Periodically check the ducts cleanliness. Access doors have purposely been designed above the duct.

BRUSHES ON FALLERS

Rotating brushes
Their purpose is esentially to detect
lappings around caterpillars. Fibres then
wind around the brushes and the latters
diameter increase generates an
electrical signal which stops the
machine. That fault is signalled on the
OMRON Terminal.

Fixed brushes
Their purpose is to keep the pinned
working elements clean, by a permanent
cleaning of the pins and of the fallers
bases.

Adjustments
Both for fixed and rotating brushes, the
adjustment must be achieved such a
way that the brush bristles slightly touch
the fallers base. If the brush goes too
deep, it is quickly deteriorated; if it is not
deep enough, it is not efficient.

Practical hints and maintenance


We recommend to regularly remove the circular brushes and to turn them over, in order to ensure an even wear
of its bristles tufts.

The fixed brushes remove the fibres particles conveyed by the pins points. A perfect condition of those brushes
is necessary for a correct head work. We recommend to regularly check their condition and to replace them
in case of important wear.

NOTA :

– A too low or a too high pressure can lead to a bad threading‐in (1,5 to 2 bars).
A timing, internal to the controller, can be adjusted between 0,5 and 5 seconds (preset at 2 seconds).

– Slow speed
To properly lay the can bottom, it is necessary to work some time on slow speed, in order to prevent the
material ejection out of the can. An independent timing, internal to the controller can be adjusted between
15 and 300 seconds (preset at 30 seconds).

– High speed
When the timing is over, the machine starts on high speed.

Automatic doffing total duration : about 35 seconds.

In case of misfunction, refer to the programmable controller instruction manual, to the


electrical diagram, to the list of defects messages, as well as to the GRAFCET (cycle process
diagram).

WORK OF THE EMPTY CANS INJECTION PLATE

After the end of a cycle, the arm


introducing the second empty can,
opens to allow a new load of empty cans.

That arm has 3 positions :


– position complete opening.
– position locking of the 2 empty cans.
– position 2nd empty can introduction.

The system is electrically controlled, i.e.:


– After the end of a cycle, a green
lighting push button starts blinking.
This is a call for loading.
– When a first can has been introduced,
the green push button lights a
continuous way.
– When the second can is in place, the
operator must validate his action by

CLEANER
A cleaner located just under the cover, and centered on the funnel, ensures the cleanliness of the coiler
calandering rollers. It is necessary to check the condition of those cleaners as often as possible (maximum
every 8 hours of work) in order to ensure the good general condition of the coilers.

FUNNELS

To change the coiler funnels:


– Unscrew the screws.
– Remove the cast iron holder.
– Remove the funnel with a circlips plier.

COILER DISMANTLING
– Remove the coiler cover.
– Dismantle the toothed belts.
– Remove the 3 holding clamps.
– Disconnect the lubrication.
– Remove the coiler by means of the winch and of the specific tools.

When refitting, do not forget to reconnect the lubrication tubes.

COILERS WITH ANGULAR CONTACT BEARINGS


The coilers rest on balls Ø 9.525 mm (3/8”) which circulate on rings fitted such a way to form an angular contact
bearing. It is necessary to regularly check the play in that bearing.

In order to adjust that play, the rotating part is made of two parts kept apart by spacers. Act on the spacers
to reduce the play. All the spacers of a same coiler must have the same thickness.

The balls tolerance is 9.525 ± 0.0005 mm.

Avoid :
– replacing only one or a few balls. Change all the balls of the bearing together.
– using balls with a bigger tolerance.

DRAFT RATIO ADJUSTMENT

The draft ratio adjustment is achieved through a chain type gear box with draft cones.

The draft ratio can vary between 4.5 and 13.2 :


– by 15% increments on the primary cone 1 to 8 (on RH side)
– by 2% increments on the secondary cone A to H (on LH side)

The draft change must be performed as follows whilst the machine is stopped:

– Pull the locking handle upwards and keep it in that position.

– Disengage the chain by turning to the maximum the clutching out handle corresponding to the cone on
which the adjustment must take place (it is then possible to release the locking handle).

– Slide the positioning handle in the notch corresponding to the chosen adjustment.

– Reengage the chain by bringing back the clutching out handle towards the center of the box. The machine
can work only if both clutching out handles are side by side in the middle of the box.

Ä Important remarks
In its two extreme positions, the safety pin of the clutching out handle must be in the corresponding hole.

The chain engagement is only possible if the positioning handle is well in front of a notch.

It is possible to operate both positioning handles at the same time for the adjustment.

The draft ratio increases when the positioning handles are pushed towards the machine body, i.e. towards
the figure 8 or the letter H.

The draft table (page 29) indicates the average values of the theoretical drafts ratios.

Ä MAINTENANCE
When installing the chain, make sure to follow the figure shown on opposite page (disengagement handles
in ”disengaged” position).

Avoid the use of a chain fastened by a quick fastener.

DRAFT CYLINDER DRIVE CASING


The power to the draft cylinders is transmitted via a toothed belt driving the 25 teeth gear in direct line with the
draft cylinder Ø 30 mm.
The transmission on the cylinder Ø 62.5 is achieved through the gears with 19 teeth, with 31–17 teeth and
with22 teeth.
The gear with 17 teeth is an element of lubrication by paddling. It does not intervene in the power distribution.

Interventions on draft cylinders casing


To unscrew the screw of the torque limiter, block the draft traverse by means of a flat key of 30 mm placed in
the notch in the cylinder Ø 62.5. Do not use the fluttings to block the cylinders. To open the casing, remove
the torque limiter and remove the cover holding screws. After removal of the gears with 22 teeth, with
31–17 teeth and with19 teeth, the casing end can be dismantled. The gears with 22 and 19 teeth are fitted
slightly tight. If necessary, use an extractor.

TORQUE LIMITER
In case of shearing of the pins, remove them by means of a hook after orientating the slot of the plate in front
of each opening. Introduce new pins in the openings and turn the plate such a way that the pins housings are
closed.

LUBRICATION
The gears of the draft cylinder casing are lubricated with fluid grease. The imperviousness is ensured by lip
joints fitted on polished rings. The top of that casing is fitted with a lubricator which feeds the bearing fitted
deep. A manual pump filled with fluid grease is supplied with the machine and fits that lubricator,

Ä Joints Replacement
When fitting new joints, take care not to damage the lip and make sure of its correct direction (lip towards the
inside of the casing). For that operation it is recommended to use the centering mandrel UGN41223AD
supplied with the machine. Take the opportunity of that operation of maintenance to replace the fluid grease.

The lip joints and the friction rings must be lubricated before fitting.

COILER DRIVE BEVEL GEARING


When the electromagnetic clutch is energized, the coilers are driven by the bevel gearing. In case of necessity
of intervention, we recommend to remove the casing from the machine. That operation is very easy :
– remove the clutch (do not forget to turn the main power OFF by the main switch).
– remove the coilers driving belt, by opening the eccentric.
– empty the casing oil. Do not refit the cap.
– remove the driving belt and block the tightener in high position.
– take apart the casing.
– For the refitting, proceed in the opposite sequence.
Do not forget to refit the oil cap.
Refill with oil : 0.9 litre of the oil recommended in the lubrication manual.

Interventions on the gears of the bevel gearing

Ä Dismantling
– Open the front cover.
– Untighten the screws (1) and (2) on the horizontal shaft.
– Remove the gears (1 to 7) from the horizontal shaft.
– Remove the screws from the bearings (1) et (2).
– Pull the shaft out by about 40 mm.
– Remove the complete vertical shaft, taking care not to mix the wedges (1) and (2).
– Separate the conical gear from the horizontal shaft.
– Take the horizontal shaft out.
– In case of important wear on one of the gears, and by prevention, it is necessary to change the bearing,
reference 6306 Z, on the vertical shaft.
– Clean inside the casing.

Ä Reassembling
– Place the horizontal shaft and its gear back in position and move the assembly backwards by 40 mm.
– Refit the vertical shaft and tighten the screws of the bearing (2).
– Place and tighten the screws of the bearing (1), making sure that the slot of the spacing wedges are oriented
upwards, i.e. in the direction of the grease nipple and of the filling cap.
– Tighten the large conical gear fixation screw (1).
– Fit the gears (1 to 7) on the horizontal shaft and tighten the screw (2) at the end of the shaft.
– Check the meshing play, adjust it by means of the wedges if necessary.
– As concerns the detail of the parts included in that casing, see the SPARE PARTS CATALOGUE.

COILER DRIVE
The coilers speed adjustment compared to the draft and calandering cylinders ones is made through the false
cones R10 and R11, driven by a toothed belt. The assembly is located in the LH headstock.

A set of gears or 67 – 69 – 71 teeth for toothed belts completes the adjustment range.
(see gearing diagram pages 31 to 36).

When shifting the belt on the false cones, and after having tightened it back, make sure of its proper positioning
and tightening.

After any intervention, it is highly recommended to check the belt tension after a
very short time of work.

ELECTROMAGNETIC CLUTCH
The clutch purpose is to drive the coilers during the machine work and to free them during the cans doffing
cycle in order to break the slivers.

It is of the fine teething type, closed when energized, 24 V DC working dry. The opening gap is adjusted in
our works and must be respected during an eventual dismantling.

Its work temperature can reach 70°C. The bearings life time is normally of 30000 hours of work. It is
recommended to change those bearings as a preventive maintenance measure before that time, in order to
prevent an eventual blocking of the device.

Ä Dismantling
– Disconnect the electrical supply.

– Remove the stopping finger.

– Remove the screw.

– Remove the fixed part.

The dust proof ball bearings are lubricated for life and are glued in the clutch.

For the WARNER clutch, N° A432A104L,


the play J to respect is 0.2 (0 +0.1) mm.

PNEUMATIC BRAKE
The brake is composed of a disk, a brake nipper and a control device comprising the pneumatic distributor
and the pressure reducer.

The pressure of service should not be lower than 1.5 bars and the braking duration shoul not be shorter than
1.5 sec. for a delivery speed higher than 400 m/min.

The brake pads, clipsed, are interchangeable and must imperatively be changed by pair.

MAIN MOTOR
The power to the machine is given by a synchroneous motor of 11 kW at 1500 rpm.
The main drive is achieved by 2 V belts SPB–VPZ.

The speed is adjustable in the screen “Speed machine” of the terminal. It acts on a frequency converter (see
frequency converter specific manual).

The motor is equipped of internal PCT sensors (positive coefficient of temperatue). In case of abnormal
overheating of the motor, the sensors work and the machine stops. The machine will then start only after the
time necessary for cooling, by pressing the start button.

The main motor overheating can be due to a clogging of the cooling grids.
Check their cleanliness before restarting the machine.

SLIVER BREAKER
The slivers break is ensured by a rotation of the coilers when the machine is stopped and the coilers
clutchedout.

That coiler rotation is achieved by a ram acting on the coilers driving pulley through a gear fitted on free wheel.

TERMINAL OMRON
The present part of the instruction manual includes only the instructions necessary to the operators ensuring
themachine production. For the interventions on the terminal other than those described in this manual, please
referto the instruction manual specific to the OMRON NS terminal.
That manual is supplied with the machine.

Any intervention on the terminal for repair, modification, dismantling,


maintenanceand, in a general way, any intervention implying the opening of the
electrical box doorpresents a risk of electrocution.

Turn the power OFF at the main switch.

Those interventions must be performed by a trained and confirmed electrician.

ACCESS MODE: LOCKING AND UNLOCKING BY THE KEY

Configuration errors
The staggering will be ignored:
– if the “start length” and the “end length” are identical.
– if the number of identical doffs is higher than the total number of doffs.
If the introduced number of identical doffs is equal to 0, it will be regarded as 1.

Staggering stopped by means of the “stop” key


If during the staggering and whilst the machine is stopped, the stop key on the “staggering” screen is
pressed, the staggering is ended and the highest length of the staggering process is transferred to the meter
counter, but without resetting that counter.

Staggering validation

The validation by simultaneous action on the both buttons implies:


– the data saving.
– the locking of the access of the meter counter.
– the meter counter automatic resetting to the value of the first staggered doff.
– On the taskbar, the pictogram blinks. The “Alarms” screen displays the symbol .

These menus are activated as soon as a fault or an alarm appears.


“Blue and yellow” flashing indicates to the operator that a fault or an alarm is present.

When the operator presses the button several times in succession the system sweeps through the
different fault information and presents it to the operator.

The “Machine faults”, “Textile faults”, “Fault messages” and “Alarms” menus are then available. Depending
on the faults and alarms, diagnostic screens may also appear in this menu zone (see the terminal's user
manual).

The main textile faults are located by flashing arrows on a block diagram displayed on the terminal's
“Textilefaults” screen (see all the terminal's user manual).

As soon as a textile fault is detected on the machine, the “Textile faults” screen is displayed automatically on
the terminal. It remains displayed until the machine is put back into operation again.

AIR CONDITIONNING

DESCRIPTION
The conditioning assembly comprises:
– a manual isolation valve,
– a regulator filter,

MAINTENANCE
Our machines are fitted with 5µ filtering cartridges.

The air filter should be cleaned at least once per year. In case of a network containing water and oil, it is even
recommended to clean it every six months.

A clogged filter limits the air flow and implies pressure drops.

FILTERING CARTRIDGE DISMANTLING


To change the filtering cartridge:

– Close the manual isolation valve.

– Unscrew the bowl protection (A).

– Extract the filtering assembly (D – E – F).

– Separate the washer (C) from its axle (F).

– Replace the filter (E).

– Fit the assembly back in reverse sequence, taking care to properly fit the joint (C).

DISTRIBUTION

The compressed air distribution to the various organs is achieved: SYMBOLS

– for the single effect rams and the blowers,


by distributors 3 – 2 (3 holes – 2 positions).

– for the double effect rams,


by distributors 5 – 2 (5 holes – 2 positions).

The BOSCH HF03 distribution block is composed of:


– a terminal plate with electric and pneumatic connections (3).
– a terminal plate with pneumatic connection (4).
– supports (5).
– electrovalves 2 x 3/2 (1).
– one electrovalve 5/2 (2).

WORK MODE
The electrovalves are fitted with manual controls by impulses (M) (1/4 turn rotation) permitting to generate
outside the cycle all the motions of pneumatic origin, in order to test every circuit. A checking LED (N) permits
to check the electrovalve work.

REPAIRING
In case of non operation of an electrovalve (1) or (2), just the top part has to be replaced, by opening the
2screws (H). It is imperative to replace each distributor by an identical reference.

ADJUSTMENT
The adjustments to make in the pneumatic box are:

– Pressures adjustment:
By means of the pressure levellers.
To adjust the pressure, unlock the leveller control button by pulling it.
Do not forget to push it back after adjustment, in order to lock the pressure leveller.

– Exhaust flows adjustment:


To reduce the cylinders speed, their exhaust flow is limited. It is recommended, for those adjustments, to
completely unscrew the flow limiter, which corresponds to the cylinder highest speed, then to progressively
screw it back till the wished speed is obtained.

REMARKS
– A completely closed flow limiter implies the cylinder blocking.

– To put the machine under pressure, all the doors and hoods must be closed, then press an “impulse” or
“start”or “cycle” button.
