Products and services for the blind and visually impaired
Modify your desktop according to your needs and
combine the functions you require to create
your own productive environment.

You can switch quickly between two modes, element mode (up above) and line mode (below).

Flexibility:
Blind computer users often encounter barriers when operating computer software
programs. COBRA accesses such software programs and optimises the information
on a Braille display. COBRA also provides an overview of the important information
displayed on the computer screen.
COBRA 9.0 simplifies the use of Windows 7,
Windows Vista and Windows XP for blind and
visually impaired computer users. User-oriented
functions can be personalised for an individual user
to guarantee a professional and efficient workflow.

The system is expandable and supports scripts

enabling many possible modifications, including
(or excluding) those on the programs level. Based
on Microsoft’s Visual Basic Scripting, multi-scripts
canbe used as modules and passed on to other
users. Scripts as solutions to lesser accessible
software are held as a library and can be called
upon to easily solve almost all problems.

COBRA runs on Unicode – texts in Arabic, Hebrew,

and Cyrillic/Russian are possible.

User’s Profiles:
COBRA saves all personal configurations
in user’s profiles. Each user has their own
configuration file; this enables different users
with different requirements to access
one computer system by using their own
individual settings. User’s profiles remain
unchanged even if COBRA is updated.

The ability to expand through Multi-scripting (based on
Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting) combined with Windows
user-specific settings round off the range of tasks.

Braille presentation:
As an aid to training, the output of the Braille display is shown on the monitor in text
form. COBRA uses a powerful Braille engine to optimise the Braille output. COBRA can
switch between Braille Grade I and Grade II by the press of a button. Inputting
Braille via the PC-keyboard is also possible. COBRA also offers two entirely new features:
• Splitting the Braille display – various types of
information can be presented on one Braille display by
dividing it into user defined sections
• Supporting multiple Braille displays – different
models of Braille displays can show the same
information simultaneously
More than 80 types of Braille displays from different manufacturers (of which of
course all BAUM Braille displays are included) are supported by means of COBRA's
Braille Manager. Terminal Server and Remote Desktop environments are connected
seamlessly. Locally installed Braille displays take over COBRA's Braille output from a
Terminal Server including scripts that are installed on a remote system. The screen
magnification feature will also follow the screen output of a Terminal Server.
The TASO® principle:
The highly acclaimed TASO® sliders allow COBRA users a
quick overview of the contents of a computer screen. TASO®
represents two dimensions of a computer screen using optional
vertical and horizontal sliders combined with acoustic signals.
Screen magnification:
COBRA Zoom is a powerful screen magnifier. It is controlled
quickly and easily from the PC-keyboard, the optional TASO®
sliders or by using the VarioPro Magnification Module. The
magnification ranges from 1,2x to 64x with full control of the
presentation i.e. colours, contrast and positive or negative image.
There are a wide variety of magnification features: full screen
magnification, split screen views, magnifying glass with enhanced
edge smoothing, etc. COBRA Zoom also supports Terminal Server
workplaces.

designed for the future.

COBRA-Explorer:
COBRA fully supports access to the Internet. COBRA-Explorer
is seamlessly integrated into COBRA and is an easy way to
handle all kind of HTML-Texts and PDF files without any plug-
ins. COBRA-Explorer is used to work in Internet Explorer or
FireFox for surfing the Internet, to read PDF files with Adobe
Reader, to read HTML-mails in Outlook or Outlook Express
and all other situations where a text is presented as HTML.
Unique in the world: On-screen OCR – Text Recognition:
For the first time in the development of screen readers, COBRA has integrated Optical
Character Recognition (OCR) into its software. COBRA recognizes text in graphics and
images, analyzes them, and extracts readable texts to be made available on the Braille
display and via speech output. Previously inaccessible parts of software programs and
web sites can now be read for the first time.
AutoText:
This is for those users who apply certain text elements repeatedly – e.g. signatures,
standardised texts, or phrases. You can create your own AutoTexts, save them as
predefined AutoText, and apply them anytime anywhere. This useful function allows
the user to work much quicker.
Acoustic hourglass:
Software programs with high processor usage make high demands on many of the
system’s resources. Consequently, the processing speed of other software programs
slows down. When this happens, blind computer users cannot easily determine what
the system is doing. The acoustic hourglass solves this problem – it audibly reports
the status of the system using acoustic signals.
