The Young Women of Malolos

Introduction:
 History of the Young Women of Malolos
- The Young Women of Malolos was written by the
request of Marcelo H. Del Pilar on February 22,
1889.
- This served as a letter of recognition for the 20
brave young women of Malolos that took a stand for
their right of education.
- The women wanted to establish a night school where
they could learn the Spanish language, but the
Spanish parish priests declined the proposal therefore
controlling also the decvisions of the governor
General.
- Upon a successful effort in government approval in
conditions which they provided, cause a great stir in
the country because fighting the government was
considered unheard of and very dangerous.

- Abuse of the Spaniards because of the hospitality of
the Filipinos.

Insights to the Young Women of Malolos:

 This letter was Rizal’s way of recognizing the brave


Filipinas who were no longer blinded by the fraud religious
beliefs brought by the friars.
 We must have our own judgment of what is right and
wrong.
 “A fruit would grow the same as of its tree.” Filipino
mothers should be good role models for their children.
 Filipino mothers should teach their children love of God,
country and fellowmen.
 Filipino mothers should be glad and honored, like Spartan
mothers, to offer their sons in defense of their country.
 Filipino women should know how to protect their dignity
and honor.
 Filipino women should educate themselves aside from
retaining their good racial values.
 Faith is merely not about reciting prayers and wearing
religious pictures. It is living the real Christian way with
good morals and manners.

RA 1425 Revisions:
“Knowing that Rizal’s goal upon creation of this letter was for
equality between men and women in terms of education &
having the right to be educated:”

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in


Congress,
2 new sections shall be qualified which states:

 Section 7. It shall be mandatory for all schools, colleges


and universities to add to their outreach program, lessons
to be taught to the less fortunate. The lessons to be
taught shall be decided upon by the “student(s).”

-This will give and bring hope to the less fortunate and
will help brighten their future.

 Section 8. It shall be mandatory for all schools, colleges


and universities to offer to women, courses that promote
livelihood education; such as, home economics. The schools
shall also encourage the women to take courses that were
only known to men.
-This will help equalize the roles of women to men in the
society today, while enhancing their primary role.

These new laws will help promote the equalization of rights of


every Filipino man and woman of today.
