Concepts
l Power Quality (Calidad de Potencia), Service Quality
(calidad del servicio):
l According to Bollen (Electric Power Systems Research Vol 66-1, 2003)
l Voltage quality is concerned with deviations of the voltage from the
ideal (single-frequency sine wave of constant amplitude and
frequency)
l Current quality is the complementary term to voltage quality: it is
concerned with the deviation of the current from the ideal (with the
additional requirement that the current sine wave is in phase with the
voltage sine wave)
l Power quality is the combination of voltage quality and current quality
l Quality of supply is a combination of voltage quality and the non-
technical aspects of the interaction from the power network to its
customers
Concepts
l Reliability Analysis (Confiabilidad):
l Commonly used in planning studies, is based on a
detailed analysis considering both single and multiple
simultaneous outages, making use of the associated
probabilities of failure and repair times

System Modeling
Transformer Model
l Equivalent circuit of a two winding transformer
Transformer Model
l Approximate circuit referred to the primary
Transmission Lines
l Transmission lines, that communicate electric
nodes among them, will be represented by a Π
circuit
Load Models
l Models are selected based on both the type
of analysis and the load characteristics
l Constant impedance, Zload
l Load is made up of R, L, and C elements connected to
a network node and the ground (or neutral point of the
system)
l Constant current, Iload
l The load has a constant current magnitude I, and a
constant power factor, independent of the nodal voltage
l Constant power, Sload
l The load has a constant real, P, and reactive, Q, power
component independent of nodal voltage or current

Conceptos y definiciones
sistemas interconectados
l Disponibilidad de recursos propios de energía primaria,
de fuentes de generación, de medios de transmisión y
de distribución normalmente suficientes

Consequences:
• A pedalling figure leaning to one
side cannot work as comfortably
as before (à limiting capacity)
• The bike catches more head wind
(à extra losses)

Consequences:
• The turned rudder leads to extra losses
• The fact that the rope is pulling at the flank of the
horse and not straight behind it, limit’s the horse’s
capacity to deliver work
