1 Introduction
About This Guide
This guide provides detailed information related to the features and enhancements provided in
recent releases of the application.

Audience
This guide is intended for administrators who are responsible for installing, licensing, and
configuring the application.

2 Release Details
This version of the product is available as an upgrade patch to the previous release. Please
note the details in the table below for each variation of the installation.

Upgrade Patch
The following details apply to the upgrade patch version of the installation which is applied to
an existing instance of the application only. To perform a new install of the application please
view the New Installation section of this document.

Upgrade Patch Pre-requisites


The following items are required to complete a successful installation of this release.
Please ensure all pre-requisites are met prior to starting any installations of the application.

• WARNING: Before installing this patch, please ensure that ALL VDC servers have at
least one known-good and recent backup and/or VM snapshot to rollback to if
necessary.
• All VDC servers must have version 5.4.0 or higher installed
o Version number is visible on the Web Interface link ribbon bar on the upper left
or
o On the server run: cat /opt/VDC/VERSION
• WARNING: If the VDC system consists of multiple servers, it is vital to install this patch
in the following order:
o Master Database Server first
o then the Master Server
o finally all the Probe Servers
o If the Master Database Server and Master Server reside on the same server,
apply this patch on that server first
• Must have SSH access via a tool like PuTTy to gain command line access on the server

• Must have access to the systems using the root user account
• Must have the ability to transfer the patch file to the server (example: WinSCP)
• Confirm the integrity of the patch transfer by comparing the MD5 checksum located in
the Patch Details above:
o After moving the file from your local system to the application server run:
md5sum PATCH_NAME.tar.bz2

Upgrade Patch Installation Instructions


Follow the instructions below to successfully apply this version of the product to your existing
application servers.
WARNING you will presented with the following at the beginning of the installation. Please
ensure that the conditions are met before starting the install.

• Upload PATCH_NAME.tar.bz2 onto all VDC 5.4.0 or higher servers under /tmp/
• Login to all application servers as root user
• Extract the patch installer by running:
o tar -C /opt/VDC -xvf /tmp/PATCH_NAME.tar.bz2
• Apply the patch by running:
o /opt/VDC/patch/PATCH_NAME/install
• Clear browser history after installation before launching VDC v5.4.02

Fix the issue in Report Creator where export and run report produces an error when

The verify function on Target tab doesn’t work. The dropdown list of the following items
on the left is wrong for SNMP configuration. Corrections appear on the right.

Impact analysis display issue fixed. Only the impacted devices are displayed with the
correct images.

• 2915 - WI: CSV Mapping Issue


CSC Mapping option is now visible.

• 2550 [AHZ-326-99027] – WI: Label text extended beyond the device box
The text is now kept inside the device box and does not fully display if there is not
enough space. Users can zoom in on the floor as much as needed to see the full text.

• 2569 – WI: Reserved FMA now visible on Web Floor


Reserved devices are shaded a different color to indicate they are reserved and not
physically placed on the floors on web floor or layers.

• 2570 – WI: Print Floorplan Feature
The Print Button (available on home tab, navigation tree floorplan node and floors tab,
floorplan layers sub tab) allows users to print the floor to a high resolution png file
where the complete label for each device is visible. Users can then use their favorite
tools to print the png file to any desired printer.

• 2590 – 3D: Clean up the number of icons on the main page of 3D Interface
The Home Page Ribbon Menu Icons have been consolidated so the full ribbon is visible.

Related functions have been grouped in drop down menus under Project, Main Data
and Search icons.

• 2591 – WI: Changes to how the web interface handles the user session
o When the home page is open, users' session will be always active.
o When the home page tab is closed or the browser is closed, the session will be
cleared. The user will be required to enter user name and password when they
open the web page again.
o When the home page tab is closed, the session becomes inactive and all tabs
which were opened from home page will be closed.
o When you logout, all tabs which are opened from home page tab will be closed.

• 2594 – 3D: Floorplan window left and right side tabs have been streamlined
o Devices tab (left) - allows you to search All devices, Available devices or devices
in the Current Location. The search field automatically checks the device name,
asset tag, serial number and IP address attributes for match. The user can fine
tune the search by adding criteria fields to the search. Users can drag devices on
to the floor from the All and Available devices list.

o Model tab (left) – allows you to search Models and Model Profiles. The search
function behaves the same as in the Devices tab. Users can create new devices
by dragging a model on to the floorplan, entering a device name, selecting a
device group, Life Cycle and quantity.

o Cable tab (left) – list all the cables for the Current Location. To view selected
cables toggle on the cables from the show/hide cables tool.
o Layer (right) - Displays the layer window so that you can open a layer view. Only
visible when viewing the floor level. Works with Add Layer Map from the Layer
tools in the ribbon bar.
o Dashboards (right) - Displays list of dashboards available for the current view. A
Data Points dashboard will be available showing a list of any data points that
have been monitored for the selected device.
o Trend Charts (right) - Displays list of trend charts available for the current view.
o Alarms (right) - Displays the alarm panel, which shows the active set of alarms
for the current view.
o File Depot/VM - If no device is select on the floor plan the tab shows File Depot
which displays a list of files that you can open, based on the currently selected
view. If a device is selected (device highlighted orange on the floor plan) then the
tab shows VM which displays a list of VMs that are under that device.

• 2598 - 3D session will not time out until you close the 3D client
The 3D user session will be not time out automatically. The session is cleared in below
situations:
o Logout from 3D client
o Close 3D application without logout
o Please note that if the 3D client is not closed normally, such as network
disconnect or 3D client crashed, the session may not be cleared.
• 2616 - License Enhancement for Grace Period
A grace period has been added for production licenses. There is now a grace period of 3
working days if the quota is exceeded or the VM moves to a new server. Users now have
time to address the issues before access to the application is terminated. Please see the
VCD 5.4.0 – Administration Guide for complete details.
• 2626 – 3D: Combine Smart Interface and Dashboard Tabs
In the 3D client the smart interface and dashboard tabs have been combined into one
right side tab named Dashboards. It displays a list of dashboards available for the
current view. A Data Points dashboard will be available showing a list of any data points
that have been monitored for the selected device.
• 2630 – WI: Device Access Tab Functions Moved to Monitor
The Access tab has been removed from the Device subtab.

The Access protocol details are now managed from the Monitor subtab with the other
monitor protocol configurations.

• 2633 - Limit Ports for Candidate Devices


Users can now filter what ports are available for port mapping by selecting All Ports
(previous and default behavior), Power Ports, Network Ports or Fiber Ports. Only the
desired ports are shown so user can more easily make connections.

A Location filter has been added to limit the device display list those at a specific
location.

The same options have been added to the 3D Client Port Mapping function.

• 2634 – 3D: Show/Hide Functions on the Floorplan Explore Tab Ribbon Streamlined
The check boxes to toggle viewing of various elements on the floor are now grouped under
five icons: General, Device Status, Racks, Devices and Cables. The Layer Filter, Generate
Humidity and Generate Thermal icons now indicate status.

Layer Filter – The Layer Filter icon indicates if a filter is applied by appearing as Filtered or
Not Filtered

Environment – Generate Humidity and Generate Thermal change to a lighter shade when
on and a corresponding legend appears.

• 2668 – [HNW-912-71529] Warning Alert not going out after a Back to Normal alert
When the Notification message is over the limit, VDC detects that there is an incoming
alarm which is higher than the alarm level sent in the last notification message, VDC will
send one and only one more notification message to warn the user that there are incoming
higher level alarms and VDC will not send any more notification messages due to the stop-
to-send threshold being triggered.

• 2710 – WI: Remove Server Install Guide from the Help page
Since the installation guide is needed before the application is installed it has been removed
from the application Help Page. The most up-to-date Server and OS installation guides for
each version is posted in the knowledgebase Visual Data Center > Installer Downloads
section on the support portal.

• 2721 - 3D VDCmon log on Master+Master DB+Probe architecture
There is no longer the following error when opening the 3D Log in 3D if the master and
master DB are on different servers.

• 2730 – WI: Cooling Utilization Report


New Cooling Utilization report has been added. It shows the sum of cooling capacity for all
the air conditioner and air handler units on the floor.

• 2799 – WI: Add Carbon Emission Factor to web building node


Carbon Emission Factor has been added to the building node setting in the location builder.
The default value is .676 kg/kW.

RPDU model power out ports should have port index.

• 2822 – WI: Add Normal Alarm Type in Alarm Detail Report

• 2825 - SMTP server timeout setting


Added a 10 second timeout setting for email SMTP server connection. If the application
doesn’t connect in 10 seconds the application will report the connection failed.
• 2826 – [ZBV-180-50397] Sensors to generate humidity and temperature
o Upon discovery of enlogic iPDU with this group of model, it will auto create child sensor object
based on the OID that OPI is able to discover

o Enhancement of monitor, the name of the attribute can be customized to the


value of an OID. This way, the system should get the name from the OID
(.1.3.6.1.4.1.38446.1.6.2.1.6) that is able to provide the attribute name (temp
and humidity). Also, if Name value queried is temp, it should be in degrees. If
name queried is humidity, it should be %.

o After reboot the PDU, the order of the temperature sensor may be changed, so
the unit of the sensor may be changed.

• 2827 - Add Audit Log Events for Project Wizard


Add log events when a project is deleted and work order is completed.

• 2828 – Order Ports by Port Index
Outlet ports on PDU – Rackmount are ordered by port index in port mapping. The port
index shows on the tooltip.

Export device will export port index of the ports in Ports table.

Rack Category can be added/modified/deleted. There is a cache and it updates every 5
minutes.

Cable manager can now be mounted on left/right side of racks like RPDU.

• 2847 – [XXS-520-57530] 3D: Bypass Login Screen


A customer now is able to pass user ID, password, and VDC server host name as arguments
to the 3D Client, so that the 3D Client can be launched and logged in automatically.
o Find the installation path of VDC 3D client, for example: C:\Program Files\Visual
Data Center\Visual Data Center 5.4.0

o Get encrypt password using the tool below. You can find the tool in the 3D client
installation path. Enter your password and copy the encrypted text the tool
provides.

o Open cmd
o Run: cd C:\Program Files\Visual Data Center\Visual Data Center 5.4.0
o Run: VDC.exe hostname username encryptedpasswordtxt
o If there is only a vdc server configured, Run: VDC.exe username encryptedpasswordtext

• 2857 – WI: Delete Discovery Jobs in Chrome


Users can now delete discovery jobs when using the Chrome browser.

• 2861 – [GJX-485-10686] New device name not updated in notification history
Now when a device name is changed the notification history for that device is updated with
the new name.

The device name is 100Wall-RFC-RB001.

Then device name is changed to 100Wall-RFC-RB001-update. Trigger the notification and


the device name is updated in the notification history.

• 2862 - Add IP Address in Alarm Notification Email


IP address has been added to alarm email.

• 2863 – [SCN-773-70956] Error port not match on import
If you import a cable for SFP port and don’t add cable type in the import file, the cable can
be imported. The cable type will be determined by the type other port.

• 2864 – [DVZ-359-98105] WI: Report Logo in 3D


Upload a logo to a Company and the logo is used in reports.

The 3D PUE report will use the logo associated with the company.

• 2870 – Support Traditional Chinese
Option for Traditional Chinese has been added to login language list.

• 2872 – [FKA-307-26484] WI: Connected Load Report Modified


On the Connected Load report, we added two additional columns, a fourth column showing
actual KW drawn and a fifth column computing the % of connected vs actual drawn.

• 2884 – Added testweb Script
This new script verifies that the Tomcat server is running properly, i.e. free from any
internal issues, license issues and permission issues.
o Run: bash /opt/VDC/bin/testweb

• 2885 – Update to getsupportinfo.sh Script


There are now three options for running this key troubleshooting tool.
o /opt/VDC/bin/getsupportinfo.sh
No arguments runs the tool without restarting or starting any services. It takes
approximately 10 minutes to run.
o /opt/VDC/bin/getsupportinfo.sh -S
Collects some additional information and restarts the application processes as
part of its execution. This script will impact production because it restarts
processes and should be used with caution on systems with active users. If the
current application is accessible via the web interface then it is NOT
recommended. If web interface is NOT accessible then use the -S option. It takes
approximately 10 minutes to run.
o /opt/VDC/bin/getsupportinfo.sh -q
Enables “quick mode” where the individual file consistency check is disabled.
Quick mode allows getsupportinfo.sh to finish in 30 seconds instead of 10
minutes.
o All options output to /var/tmp/getsupportinfor.log.bz2

• 2886 – 3D: Add Hostname on 3D Home Page


Display hostname of the VDC server on the 3D home page.

• 2887 – 3D: Add View/Edit status on 3D Floor Plan

• 2889 – [GBM-996-28880] WI: Trap Configuration is not working


An attribute named “Specific” has been added. If devices do not have a numeric value in the
Specific field, the trap sender will check the IP Address. If devices have a numeric value in
the Specific attribute, it will check both IP Address and Specific match for trap sender.

• 2890 – WI: SNMP TCP/UDP Protocol


The monitor issue with SNMP TCP protocol has been fixed. The user can now specify UDP or
TCP.
