Course Objectives:
1. Introduce the student to electricity and magnetism using basic mathematical tools.
2. Improve problem-solving skills.
3. Develop conceptual understanding of physical problems in electricity and magnetism
4. Teach the student how to approach and solve real-life problems related to electricity
and magnetism.

Course Brief Description:


Topics covered will be:
Charge and matter; electric field; Gauss’ law; electric potential; capacitors and dielectrics;
current and resistance; electromotive force and circuits; magnetic field and forces;
Ampere’s law; Faraday’s law of induction; introduction to Maxwell’s equations.

Note about HW and Quizzes and the textbook:

Homework and quizzes are conducted using the wileyplus system via Balckboard integration. There will be no
need to buy a separate code, as all students will be billed for the code as part of their tuition. The blackboard
embedded system will include online access to the textbook and other Wiley tools. Additionally, students will
get an electronic PDF copy of the text to read on their computers and tablets.
Please note: there is no need to buy a textbook. It will be part of your e-services as described above.

Important Note
 Attendance and participation are extremely important, and the usual university rules will
apply. Attendance will be noted at each class.
 Absence of 10% will result in the 1st warning
 Absence of 15% of the time allocated for the course will result in the 2 nd warning.
 Absence of 20% or more will result in forfeiting the course and the student will not be
permitted to attend the final examination.
