SCHOOL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND


PUBLIC SAFETY MISSION
The University of Baguio educates individuals to be empowered professionals in
the global community. The SCJPS, in its dynamic atmosphere for learning,
endeavors to train Criminologists and Forensic Scientists who embody the ideals
of patriotism, justice, truth and integrity.

SCHOOL OBJECTIVES
The SCJPS aims to produce a graduate who:
1. demonstrates exemplary performance in the law enforcement
profession;
2. ensures accurate, complete, and prompt conduct of case
investigations;
3. promotes and protects human rights without discrimination and bias;
4. conducts criminological and forensic researches for community well –
being;
5. advocates crime prevention programs for a safer environment; and
6. exemplifies responsible leadership through socio-civic endeavors.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINOLOGY (REVISED 2013)

The Bachelor of Science in Criminology aims to produce a graduate who:


1. exudes competence in the practice of the Criminology profession;
2. exhibits exceptional skills in crime prevention;
3. exercises the code of ethics of a professional criminologist;
4. produces relevant criminological researches;
5. practices stewardship of a crime-free society; and
6. imbibes the spirit of a dynamic servant leader.

BACHELOR OF FORENSIC SCIENCE

The Bachelor of Forensic Science aims to produce a graduate who:

1. performs exceptionally well in the technical and academic expertise of


Forensic Science;
2. warrants precise forensic analyses in the administration of justice;
3. embodies the ideals of a responsible and fair forensic scientist;
4. conducts scientific researches for the resolution of crime;
5. supports programs that address the justice system; and
6. leads in the promotion of forensic endeavors in the advancement of a
humane society.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE WITH SPECIALIZATION IN


CRIMINOLOGY

The Master of Science in Criminal Justice with Specialization in Criminology aims


to produce a graduate who:
1. utilizes knowledge, skills and abilities that promote peace and order in
the community;
2. exercises due diligence in handling cases and issues, considering the
rights and welfare of the stakeholders;
3. manifests virtuous behavior in the enforcement of law-abiding society;
4. promotes the use of quality researches on criminal justice system;
5. addresses critical societal issues related to law enforcement; and
6. takes a proactive part in creating a safe place for people to live in.

MASTER IN CRISIS AND DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT

The MCDRRM is a two year course that endeavors to keep professionals abreast
of all types of risks that would occur in a community. The program focuses on
prevention, preparedness, response and recovery from disaster events. It aims to
train professionals to become capable in the implementation of practical
methods to reduce the effects of natural or man-made crisis situations.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE WITH SPECIALIZATION IN


CRIMINOLOGY

The Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice with Specialization in Criminology


aims to produce a graduate who:
1. exhibits a high level of technical and academic expertise suited to the
field of Criminology;
2. demonstrates competencies and skills befitting future leaders and
managers of different law enforcement agencies;
3. acts in accordance with precepts and values expected of a law
enforcer;
4. undertakes research that contributes to the formulation and
implementation of policies on peace and order;
5. assists the government in designing approaches and programs that
effectively address public safety issues; and
6. exudes the highest degree of professionalism in dealing with different
people.
SCHOOL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND PUBLIC SAFETY HISTORY

The Bachelor of Science in Criminology was offered in 1967 by then Baguio Tech,
now the University of Baguio. It was in 1974 that the course gained Government
Recognition. The BS Criminology program was granted Center of Excellence by
the CHED in 2008.

Effective First Semester of SY 2013-2014, the School also offered the course
Bachelor of Forensic Science in conformity with the CHED Memorandum Order
No. 48 s. of 2012 which made University of Baguio a pioneer school in the
offering of the said course.

The School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety currently offers the following
programs of study:
