One Day Junior Chess Congress

Musketeers Juniors Chess Club is once again hosting its annual friendly
Club Junior Chess Congress. The competition will take place over 6 rounds
for the younger players, 5 rounds for those at secondary school. ‘Swiss’
rules will apply so all children will play in all rounds – it’s not a knockout
competition. Children will be divided into sections from Under 8 to Under
18 and according to gender. Some sections may be combined on the day
dependent on numbers. Chess clocks may be used in some sections. The
ethos of the day is one of friendly competition for both beginners and
experienced players – an ideal introduction to tournament chess. The
venue can accommodate a maximum of 150 players.

Please arrive on the day from 0845. There will be a briefing at 0910 and the first round will start at
0930. Matches will finish at 1600 at the latest and will be immediately followed by a prizegiving
ceremony. There will be a variety of prizes rewarding individuals’ success in each section plus the
Musketeers’ Schools’ Prize for the Junior School and the Secondary School each with the highest
combined score of their top four scoring players – the Junior and Senior Schools Shields. The value
of prizes for individuals will be determined by the number of entrants. The entry fee per player is £8 –
cash, or cheque payable to ‘Musketeers Chess Club’, or BACS on request (alas refunds can’t be given for
non-attendance on the day). There will be dedicated areas for parents/guardians to base themselves
during the day and a tuck shop selling tea, coffee and refreshments (hot dogs, crisps, chocolate, sweets
etc). Winners’ names will be published on the Musketeers website after the event.
