Course Description
Welcome to AICE Marine Science! In this class we will explore the oceans and the physical properties that
make them such a fantastic habitat for marine life. We will use a variety of teaching tools including technology,
labs, projects, and papers to facilitate our learning process. Together we will foster a productive classroom by
creating a positive and collaborative learning environment in which we treat each other with respect.

Cambridge programs and qualifications help Cambridge learners to become:

● confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others
● responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others
● innovative and equipped for new and future challenges
● engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference

Required Supplies Class Wishlist (optional)

● 5-subject spiral bound notebook, college-ruled ● White copy paper
● Black and blue ink pens ● Neon or brightly colored copy paper
● Color pencils ● Hand sanitizer
● #2 pencils ● Tissues
● Clear tape ● Paper towels
● Scientific calculator
● Earbuds/headphones

Technology Policy
Students will be provided with Chromebooks to utilize during class time when needed. For that reason, many
of the assignments in AICE Marine Science this year will be submitted digitally through our online Google
Classroom. The Chromebooks are to be treated carefully and with respect. They are for school-based
assignments and research only - no gaming is permitted. Much of the class will revolve around collaborative
learning utilizing the chromebooks, so it is expected that students will display exceptional digital citizenship at
all times. As we will have access to these computers every day, cell phone use and charging will not be
permitted in class. On occasion, as determined by the teacher, students will be permitted to listen to music on
their phones.

Student Expectations
● You will be respectful of your fellow classmates, your teacher, and materials provided by the school.
● You will come to class prepared to learn and ready to be productive.
● You will practice academic honesty at all times and meet all deadlines.

Classroom Policies
● If you are late, please enter quietly and check-in with the teacher.
● No food, drinks, or gum allowed in class. Water in a resealable container is acceptable, however, the
container must be put away when not drinking due to technology present in the lab.
● Safety first. See your copy of the lab safety contract for more details.
● If you are absent, copies of all assignments and notes will be in the make-up folder in class in Google
classroom. You are responsible for any assignments missed. Any lab or test make-ups should be
scheduled by you, the student, on the day you return back to school. Please wait until group work so that
instructional time can be devoted to the whole class.
● Interactive notebooks (INB) will be collected and graded before each test. They are due at the START of
the class period on the day of the test.

Grading Policy
The aim of this course is to prepare you for the Cambridge Marine Science exam in April 2019.

Late Assignments
Students are expected to submit assignments on or before the designated deadlines. Paper assignments are
due at the beginning of the class period. Online assignments are due by 11:59PM. It is the student’s
responsibility to manage their time in order to meet their deadlines. To better support students’ efforts in
meeting deadlines, I will:
- announce deadlines when giving the assignment;
- post deadlines in class, on the class website, and in Google classroom
- provide sufficient time for students to complete assignments based on my professional judgment.
If assignments are not submitted by the due date given, students cannot expect feedback in time to help
support their success on subsequent assessments.

Academic Honesty Policy

It is integral to your learning process that you can take ownership for all of your work. Therefore, I expect
complete academic honesty on all assignments, not just tests. Make sure to cite all sources when completing
your work, even those for images. During tests and quizzes all electronic devices must be turned off and kept
out of reach in your backpack. Although students will work collaboratively during some class activities and labs,
it is expected that all assessments be completed individually. Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated.

Classroom Safety
Please read and sign the Lab Safety handout, so that you may participate in classroom labs.
