1- Wall supporting outside the WWT room – W1 Th=30cm:
Hereafter is the procedure adopted for the strengthening of the existing RW outside the
WWT room - Section BB - . The strengthening covers the wall stem as well as its
foundation.
For the wall stem, a 30cm thick skirt is added to the front face of the wall. Epoxy
anchored ties are placed in order to ensure the link between the skirt and the wall stem,
the same principle is applied for the longitudinal rebars that are anchored in the
existing foundation.
As for the foundation, it is thickened and enlarged as per the attached drawings, the
added part is also epoxy anchored in the existing part of it.
The new wall (old one and new one) dimensions are used to check its general stability
under sliding and overturning, and the safety ratios regarding each of the 2
phenomenon turned out to be within the permissible limits of the code.
Finally, the reinforcement for each of the walls elements (stem and foundations) is
calculated based on the ultimate strength design state as per the recommendations of
the IBC code. For all the details of the reinforcement, refer to the attached Acad
drawings.

2- Wall supporting inside the WWT room – W2 Th=30cm:
For the strengthening of the existing RW inside the WWT room - Section AA –
and since the room is already executed; the existing raft is considered as a wall
foundation and the existing block wall will be demolished (after installing the steel
structure) and replaced by a reinforced concrete wall W2 Th=30cm and it will be
anchored in the existing Rc slab/ Raft.
As for the reinforcement calculation, this wall will be considered as a simply supported
beam on its lower (raft) and upper (cover slab) ends. It shall be also mentioned that the
calculations were performed per linear meter of the wall (100x30cm2) load by:
- Load 1 : dead load resulting from the landfill behind the wall:
= . . = 0.5x20x2.9=29KN.
- Load 2 : Live load resulting from the upper room:
=K0 . q = 0.5x10=5KN.

3- WWT-Room cover slab supporting:
Since the cover slab of the mentioned room is already executed on masonry walls
which are now plastered from inside with an outer clad by natural stone; A new steel
structure has been suggested inside the WWT room’s to hold the slab instead of the
masonry verified on :
- Load 1: (D.L. + S.W.) 10KN/m2.
- Load 2: L.L. 2.5 KN/m2.
This structure will be helpful for the WWT room’s structure and in order to allow the
demolition of the masonry wall that is just adjacent to the existing Rc wall without
causing any damages to the slab.
