CONCLUSIONS

The study shows that the dwellers of Parizat Residential Area of Rajshahi City Corporation emptied their
septic tank directly into open drain although a few of them use sock pit. Proper disposal of sludge is
preferable rather than disposing it in open drains for safety and hygiene. Citizens in this residential area are
well aware about the risk of emptying septic tank effluent into open drains. They are willing to pay for
sludge management. They also suggested that periodic cleaning & proper management of septic tanks
should be provided by the RCC. However, achieving these improvements is not easily possible, especially
considering financial difficulties that responsible institutions encounter. Moreover, the study also highlights
the importance of establishing a standardized system of implementing the sludge management by local
authority like RCC.
