As we have talked about, the first section of the course will be focusing on what aspects of life create your
identity. Before we start looking at how Globalization has affected your identity, we are going to see what
makes us us.

To complete this, we will create a visual and written representation of ourselves, describing ourselves,
and linking self concept to globalization. These will be displayed in the classroom, so Please put your
best work into this!

PART I:

1) Think about yourself and write down a minimum of fifteen things (factors) that come to mind that shape who
you are. Are you athletic? Does your faith play a large role? Do you like movies? Do you play sports? Do
you play guitar? Write down anything that contributes to your identity.

2) Think about the context that shapes your identity such as your family, history, language, traditions, role
models etc.

3) Also look at how you express yourself (individual and collective identity). Now look at what you have written
down and rank the 10 most important things that make you.

PART II:

1) Using the provided construction paper and anything else that is available (magazines, crayons, felts, etc.),
cut out pictures / draw to create a poster that visually represents you and identifies who you are.

2) Once you have completed your poster, write a rationale about your creative piece which includes why you
chose your representations, and which aspect of Globalization it most relates to.

PART III:

In one solid paragraph – ¾ to one page long, answer to the chapter question:
To what extent does globalization shape your identity?’

Make sure that your position is supported by information that we have learned in the chapter!

Example –Look at the forces (trade, transportation, media, communication technology) and dimensions
(social, political, economic, environmental) of Globalization. Also, remember to comment if positively or
negatively shapes your identity.
