Greeting Monday: Approaches to Learning – initiative,
1. Using rice written, Sand and Water Table Area card, photograph of rice, photograph of rice all over the floor, no eating symbol, discussed how rice engagement, problem solving, reflection
Time would be in the table for the week, talked about how we can’t eat the rice or put it in water, discussed how we can keep the rice in a bowl/container
to take it from one area to the next, so it doesn’t spill, talked about not throwing it or dumping it Social/Emotional – sense of competence,
2. Classroom jobs written, drawing of the schedule mover, the line leader, the door holder, the wagon puller, and the recycler, explained each job and emotions, empathy, community, building
explained how the letter links on the board indicate who has which job relationships, moral development

Wednesday:

Thursday: Social Studies – decision making, geography,


1. Items in hallway written, photograph of lockers, a piano, and carts, explained that these items aren’t ours and how we could hurt ourselves, drew no history

2. Collecting rocks written, stated how we’ve seen students collecting rocks and putting them in their pockets, explained how we’ve created a nature

Friday:

2. Silly vs. focused written, photograph of a child being silly and a photograph of a child being focused, explained how there are times of the day
when we need to be focused (greeting time, small-group time, large-group time, etc.) and other times when we can be silly (outside time, work time,
etc.)
3. Sorting foods written, photograph of a carrot, an apple, an orange, a cookie, and a piece of cake, students stated what foods are healthy and which
foods aren’t healthy, students sorted them into two groups, we explained how desserts have lots of sugar and make us tired where as fruits and
vegetables have vitamins and give us energy

Small  Students were provided with shapes (squares, triangles, trapezoids, diamonds, and hexagons). Students used the shapes to make their own Approaches to Learning – initiative,
creations. Students created animals and other objects like robots, birds, flowers, snakes, houses, etc. Students learned to identify all of the shapes. engagement, use of resources, reflection

Time  Students were provided with counters. Students sorted them by color and/or by type of animal. Students put them in separate piles. They counted Social/Emotional – community, building

 Students were provided with a piece of paper with all the letters in their first name typed on it. The letters were all uppercase and all mixed up. Physical/Health – fine-motor skills, body

 Students went outside and cleaned up the school environment. Each student was given a trash bag and filled it up with trash he/she found.
Students threw the trash in the dumpster. Students learned that litter is trash that is left on the ground. We explained how it can be harmful to Creative Arts – art
animals.
