This Wednesday is a late start! The first
bell rings at 10:40 and we begin at 10:45!
Picture day is this Thursday! Forms were
sent home last week and should have all the
information (including ordering online) but if you
have any questions about photos, please contact
Mrs. Fromson in the main office.
It feels great to finally be done with the
litany of assessments that we need to administer at
the start of the school and continue to hone in on
instruction! Reading groups will begin this week.
Assignments are differentiated and will appear in
your child’s planner.
Book orders have been placed and we will
send home books as soon as they come in.
Most folks have already signed up for
parent/teacher conferences, but if you haven’t,
please use the links below to select a spot that
works for you. If you would like a paper copy of
available spots or cannot make any of the times
listed, contact your child’s teacher.

Social Studies/Science
The materials for the new Amplify science
curriculum should arrive this week and allow us to
move forward in our science instruction. We will be
wrapping up our paper airplane introduction into
scientific method and manipulation of controlled
variables.
Social studies instruction will unpack how
citizens engage with the government and what our
tax dollars pay for.
Math
We are working on subtracting across
zeros with larger numbers. This is a tricky concept
for a lot of students and often requires several days
of working on it before true mastery is achieved.
Thank you for your continued support in
helping our kids with math. Please continue to
write us notes, send us emails and check your
child’s math homework each night. Our partnership
with you is a crucial part of your child’s education.

Reading
This week will be our first week of reading
groups. These are designed to meet students
where they are in meeting their literacy needs.
We are also starting unit 1, week 3 of our
Reading Street reading program. Students will be
reading “On the Banks of Plum Creek”.
Spelling instruction will be done in small
groups and spelling words should be written in
student planners AND are also printed out on a
sheet of 3-hole punched paper. Our focal
comprehension strategy this week is to use story
elements such as the characters, setting and plot to
draw conclusions about the text.

Special News Writing

 9/26 – Late start day (1st bell @ 10:40; 10:45 We are working on creating suspense in
start) our stories by giving the audience enough
 9/27 – Picture day information to create a picture and feeling without
 10/5 – Fun Run! providing all the details. Your child may mention
 10/16,10/18 & 10/23– ½ days for that we are working on “show, don’t tell” in class.
