TYPES OF SPEECH STYLES


• INTIMATE- This style is private, which occurs between or among close family
members or individuals
• CASUAL - This style is common among peers and friends. Jargon, slang, or the
vernacular language are used.
• FORMAL - This style is used in formal settings. Unlike the consultative style, this is
one-way. EX: SONA of the PRESIDENT.
• CONSULTATIVE – consult professionals like doctors, guidance counselors, lawyer
• FROZEN- This style is “frozen” in time and remains unchanged. It mostly occurs in
ceremonies. Common examples are the Preamble to the Constitution, Lord’s Prayer.
Forms of intrapersonal communication

• Self-talk
• Reflection
• Meditation
• Prayer
• Thinking aloud

TYPES OF INTERPERSONAL CONTEXT


• DYAD COMMUNICATION - Occurs between two people.
Example: Two persons meeting over lunch to discuss a business proposal

• SMALL GROUP COMMUNICATION- Involves at least three but not more than twelve
people engaging in a face to face interaction to achieve desired goal. All participants
can freely share their ideas in a loose and open discussion.
Example: You are having a discussion with your groupmates on how to finish the
assigned tasks.

• PUBLIC COMMUNICATION- Requires you to deliver the message in front of the group.
Message can be driven by informational or persuasive purposes
Example: You deliver a graduation speech to your batch
• MASS COMMUNICATION - Communication that takes place through television, radio,
newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, internet and other types of media.
Example: You are a student journalist articulating your stand on current issues through
the school newspaper.

2 Types of Speech Context


• Speech Context is simply the different scopes of a communication process
• Each topic has a corresponding most appropriate speech context to be used.

1. INTRAPERSONAL
A type of communication that centres on one person where the speaker’s acts
both as the sender and the receiver. Intrapersonal communication takes place within a
single person, often for the purpose of clarifying ideas or analyzing a situation.
2. INTERPERSONAL
A type of communication between and among people and establishes personal relationship
among them.
