c. Guidelines for Peers Evaluation

As you know, 3-5 points of each participant's grade in this course are based on
other team members' assessments on his/her contribution in preparing the
assignments. You may wish to consider the following in completing the
evaluation. (Note: All responses will be kept strictly confidential!):
• Was the team member willing to assume a fair share of the work for the
project?
• Did the team member contribute meaningfully to discussions and decisions?
• Did the team member work compatibly with other team members?
• Did the team member complete his/her roles in a responsible manner?
• Did the team member give his/her best effort to contribute a fair share?
• Did the team member go above and beyond the call of duty?

d. Feedback Schedules for Different Learning Activities

Please note that 5 to 10 minutes in-class comment and feedback to each team will
be given right after the two oral presentations. For the written assignment,
comments and feedback will be given in 4 weeks after the submission of the
report.

Note. Please arrange the meeting schedule with Aqi, our teaching assistant, given
that the class is already ended for written assignment comments and feedback.

POLICY ON ACADEMIC HONESTY AND PLAGIARISM

The Chinese University of Hong Kong places very high importance on

honesty in academic work submitted by students, and adopts a policy of
zero tolerance on cheating and plagiarism. Any related offence will lead to
disciplinary action including termination of studies at the University.
Attention is drawn to University policy and regulations on honesty in
academic work, and to the disciplinary guidelines and procedures
applicable to breaches of such policy and regulations. Details may be
found at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/policy/academichonesty/.

With each assignment, students will be required to submit a signed

declaration that they are aware of these policies, regulations, guidelines
and procedures. In the case of group projects, all students of the same
group should be asked to sign the declaration, each of whom is
responsible should there be any plagiarized contents in the group project,
irrespective of whether he/she has signed the declaration and whether
he/she has contributed directly or indirectly to the plagiarized contents.

For assignments in the form of a computer-generated document that is

principally text-based and submitted via VeriGuide, the statement, in
the form of a receipt, will be issued by the system upon students'
uploading of the soft copy of the assignment. Assignments without the
properly signed declaration will not be graded by teachers. Only the final
version of the assignment should be submitted via VeriGuide.

The submission of a piece of work, or a part of a piece of work, for more

than one purpose (e.g. to satisfy the requirements in two different
courses) without declaration to this effect shall be regarded as having
committed undeclared multiple submission. It is common and acceptable
to reuse a turn of phrase or a sentence or two from one’s own work; but
wholesale reuse is problematic. In any case, agreement from the course
teacher(s) concerned should be obtained prior to the submission of the
piece of work.

Appendices

Appendix 1: My Favorite Brands Exercise

In order to enhance your understanding on different international

brands, this exercise requires you to share your favorite brands in a
number of selected industries. (For details, please refer to Table 1).
Among the four selected industries, each industry will be responsible
by two groups. Each group needs to select two international brands
originated from your home country or a place where you have
lived in for a period of time (e.g. overseas exchange; boarding school,
service learning, overseas internship, etc.) so as to leverage your local
as well as international knowledge.

The selected industries for this exercise are:

1. Apparel related industry

2. Food and Beverage related industry
3. Lodging related industry
4. Transportation-related industry

The chosen brands need to serve at least one overseas/

international market. To avoid duplication, each group will select
different brands. Therefore, you must get my approval before starting
the assignment. The group who picks the brands first gets them. (The
deadline for the brand choices is by the end of week 4). Note: We plan
to have 4 to 6 members each group, subject to the student enrollment
numbers. Each group will be responsible for at least 2 brands, depends
on the team size

internship, etc.) so as to leverage your cultural and international knowledge.

The selected industries for this exercise are:

1. Apparel related industry

2. Food and Beverage related industry
3. Lodging related industry
4. Transportation related industry
5. Entertainment related industry

The chosen brands need to serve at least one overseas/ international

market. To avoid duplication, each group will select a different brand.

Appendix 2: Group Project

For the project, each group has to choose one established company first.
Imagine that the chosen company is going to expand internationally for its
goods/services; you are requested to identify and explain your
recommendations on the choice of location, the entry mode to this new
market and the international business strategy your chosen company
should adopt.

Each group will select a different company to avoid duplication.

Therefore, you must get my approval before starting the project. The group
who picks the company first gets it. (The deadline for the company choice is
by the end of week 5)

In this project, you are requested to

a. Provide background information of the industry (e.g. special features, the

industrial value chain system), the company and the product or services
that you are intended to market in the international markets.

b. Identify and describe the information related to the country or the city
that you are going to enter, and also the reasons why you have decided to
choose that specific location. Issues like market potentials and cost which
might be coming from demographics, economic, technological, socio-cultural
conditions and competition should not be overlooked in making your location
decisions.

c. Identify the mode of entry and the international business strategy you are
planning to recommend to the company

d. Explain all choices and decisions (should be supported by secondary or

primary information)

Your written project is due at 5:00pm on the last Friday (30th Nov
2018) of the semester. Please submit your written project to the drop-in box
with lock (named MGNT 2510C – (2018/19) Dr Almaz Chak) located at the
2/F of the Cheng Yu Tung Building at Chak Cheung Street. Late submissions will
not be accepted. The word limit is 5000 words, excluding appendices.

Each group is required to present the project in the end of the

semester. The presentation should not last more than 20 minutes and will be
followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. A collective grade will be given to

23
the whole group, yet, extra bonus for outstanding individual presenter

Week In-class Activities

2 Rehearsal Exercise I: “Before” and
(starting “After” Game
from
3:30pm to Each group (group size depends on the
5:15pm) enrollment) has a budget of HK$50 only.
You need to select 2 products from the
ParkNshop on CUHK campus in 20
minutes. One product must be something
that you think would be a big hit in an
overseas market and hence will bring
extra profit for the producer. As a result,
you need to specify your targeted
international market (excluding Hong
Kong) before doing the shopping.

Another product should be something that

could serve local market only, i.e. Hong
Kong. As a result, you would not
recommend the company to sell it to any
overseas markets because foreign/
overseas customers would not really want
to buy it. Share your rationale behind
your selection in-class. This is the
“before” part and you will do the “after”
part by the end of the semester.
