INTRODUCTION
Manufacturing processes need more power and need of the hour is to look for
an alternative. One such promising alternative is use of solar power in
manufacturing processes.

Solar energy is renewable energy which can be harvested easily stored and
suitably converted into mechanical or electrical energy and further this
converted power can be utilised in various applications.

The initial installation and setup cost may be high but the operating cost is
worthy. Availability the ease of extracting the solar power and the
maintenance aspects rank solar power as the best and promising alternative
available to replace or to compete with existing conventional methods.
Problem statement
“SOLAR POWER SETUP FOR SMALL SCALE MANUFACTURING PLANT”

This project deals with developing a setup for providing solar power to small
scale manufacturing plant. The setup is placed on top of the manufacturing
plant. We are planning to implement this setup for those plants where the
solar power generated per unit area can meet the power required per unit
area criteria of the plant.
KANO DIAGRAM
Kano diagram is the indication of how the product is performing. The diagram
indicates satisfaction of the end user according to the expected performance
and delighted performance of the product .It compares the satisfaction of the
customer with respect to the basic performance .The basic performance in our
project is to provide minimum power requirement so that they don’t entirely
depend on the conventional power , thus leading to the saving of cost in the
long run .Our project aims at providing delighted satisfaction to the end user
by making them use it effectively.

Basic needs: Getting minimum power requirement

Expected needs: Save cost in long run,

Delighted: Power availability in any weather conditions

S-curve
The S curve trends of an industry are important for a competitive company to
understand. The trend indicates the technological competition corresponding
to the product. The curves shows the comparison of the technologies used in
the conventional powered machining and solar powered machining. At the top
of asymptote of an S-curve though all is not ended, innovators typically
conceive of an even newer technology that can provide even better
performance.

The first s-curve shows clearly, the positive effect of solar energy machining is
much higher than conventional machining.

Second curve shows that due to high installation cost of solar based
machining, cost savings are low at the start but in long term it is more cost
effective.
FAST DIAGRAM
The function analysis system technique is used to define, analyze and
understand the product functions, how the functions relate to each other. It is
a top-down approach which starts with the overall function and then
decomposes it. It is used to display the functions in a logical sequence to
prioritize them, and test their dependency. One needs to brainstorm all the
functions the product will serve in the eyes of the customer. Analyzing the
basic functions and sub functions that are subordinate to it, which support the
basic function and assist to the product work and sell.
Quality function deployment
QFD is a methodology for defining the customer’s desires in customer’s own
voice, prioritising these desires, translating them into engineering
requirements and establishing targets for meeting the requirements. It is one
of the best and currently used technique to generate engineering
specifications .It is organised to develop the major pieces of information
necessary to understand the problem.

QFD supports and documents the benchmarking and customer-need-analysis

processes and intent to improve the quality of products in the broadest sense.
The method helps generate the information needed in the engineering
specifications development phase of the design process.
Major types of solar collectors
Flat plate collector: It is a metal box with a glass or plastic cover (called glazing)
on top and a dark-colored absorber plate on the bottom

Evacuated plate collector: Composed of multiple evacuated glass tubes each

containing an absorber plate fused to a heat pipe.

Compound parabolic collector (CPC): Consists of two parabolic dishes (mirror)

that will concentrate solar energy at a single focal point.

Bowl collector: Consists of a spherical mirror instead of parabolic.

Morphological methods
It is a systematic method for the assembly and continued idea creation. This
technique uses the function identified to foster ideas. The goal is to find as
many concepts as possible that can provide each function identified in the
function decomposition and to combine these individual concepts into overall
concepts that meet all the functional requirements .This tool provides a
structured search and combination of concepts in product design.
DFX
The terminology to describe a design methodology known as DFX, X
representing a performance measure of design .The development of DFX
