Our Dreams to Connect With Souls

Art is a form of media to express oneself. The various medias of art can pave a way for

the artist to express their ideas for others to view or kept to themselves. It is a form of

communication that can connect with others universally. The artworks can invoke responses via

speculations and emotions from the audiences. The idea of art varies from person to person but it

is surely a subject that connects humanity with one another through impressions and familiar or

similar feelings.

The Persistence of Memory, by Salvador Dalí in 1931, is an art piece that conveyed an

eccentric feel. The oddity of the painting proposed multiple theories on its meaning since

Salvador Dalí did not state the interpretation of his artwork. The striking images in the painting

showcases melting clocks against a desert. It enables a dream-like state upon viewing the scenery

due to its hallucinatory landscape. When viewing this piece, it came down to whether this is a

psychoanalysis piece on dreams, a memory from his own dream, or a mixture of both.

In absence of Salvador Dalí interpretation, it allowed people around the globe to come

together, analyze, and express their own theories. This form a relationship from the artwork to

the audience. Alike to the setting in his painting, dream-like, there are no conclusive answers to

the purpose behind it. This observation connects to the idea that art is a media that permits

human beings to come together, whether with similar feelings and opinions or just the need to

interact.

The definition of art and what is labeled as art may differ on the being but it remains a

topic that allows others to connect and interact. Art created its own category for different ideas to

come and grow, expanding in multiple directions. There are no conclusive right or wrong

answers to another person’s opinion since it is their own. Opening oneself to another’s opinion

creates a space for another being to come and infer about the topic, cultivating one’s ability to

see notions in a different setting. Comparable to a dream-like state, ideas are not cemented.
