Safety around our school
I would like to take this opportunity
to remind parents of the collective
responsibility we have for the safety
of our children around school,
particularly at drop-off and collection
times. I would be grateful if you could
read the following:
Roads around school – these get very
busy during school times both with
parents and other commuters.
Parking on the road outside school is
legal, however it does block the road,
so can cause further frustrations.
Parking with wheels on the pavement
(in an attempt not to block the road)
is illegal and can cause problems for
pedestrians, especially those with
buggies, etc. Please consider this.
Parish Car Park – we are lucky to have
public parking near to school, which
helps keep cars off the road, however
we need to work together to keep
this car park safe. Please be very
careful when reversing out of spaces.
Please park carefully and responsibly.
Please keep your speed to a walking
pace. The Parish Council will not
provide markings, so parents need to
judge spaces and size of vehicles, etc.
Disabled spaces are marked, however
– please leave these for people who
may have mobility difficulties.
Drop-off zone – this is for parents
who wish to drop their children
(getting out on the pavement side,
please) and then continue to work,
etc. Cars should not be parked here
while you walk up to school. By using
the drop-off zone in this way, parents
can arrive and leave more swiftly,
leaving the space for the next parent.
Staff car park – this is not to be used
by parents at drop-off and collection
time. The car park gets busy at this
time with minibuses and staff cars
and is not safe for pedestrians. The
only times when we are happy for
parents to use the car park is if you
are dropping/collecting from
Smallworld well before and well after
school times or if you are
collecting/dropping for doctor’s

appointments, illness etc. Please keep
speed to a walking pace.
Mr Jones – as site manager, Mr Jones
is on duty in the car park at the
beginning of the day most days. This
area is identified as higher risk due to
traffic, so Mr Jones can help children
crossing and accessing the pedestrian
gate. If Mr Jones asks you to park in a
different place or to slow down, he is
doing so to help keep our area safe
for our children. I appreciate that
mornings are very busy times for
families and tempers can get short,
but I would be grateful if you can also
respect the role that Mr Jones is
fulfilling for us all.
Other car parks – don’t forget that
other car parks in the village are
available for our use, in particular the
Village Hall car park has a good
amount of space and is just a short
distance away.
Role of the Police – you will be aware
that Cheshire Police often visit our
school to meet with the children and
help us to deliver messages of road
safety, responsibilities in the
community and on the Internet. They
also support me with road safety in
our area. Although it is not desirable
in the interests of good relationships,
but they will issue tickets if parents
are parking illegally, etc. They often
do spot checks and they do so for our
safety.
PTA Band Night – Friday 28th Sept
It is the last chance to get tickets for
what promises to be a fantastic
evening of live music. Please see PTA
posters around the school for more
information.
School Clubs
To clarify, the school clubs which
have now started will run up to the
end of w/b 3rd December.
Macmillan Coffee Afternoon
You will have received a paper and
electronic letter earlier this term
inviting you to the Coffee Afternoon
we will be holding in school on Friday
afternoon. Please come to school
from 1.30pm for cakes, drinks and to
listen to the children singing. If you
are not able to attend, please send in
a small amount of money for your
child to buy a cake (50p each). If you
are able to attend, you are welcome
to collect your child(ren) from class
and sit with them. The school day will
end at the normal time.
As the letter indicated, children are
welcome to wear either green or
purple (Macmillan colours) and are
therefore welcome to wear non-
uniform. We are asking for a
donation of £1 for this. All of the
money raised will be given to this
very worthwhile charity. Thank you
for your support and we look forward
to seeing you on Friday afternoon.
Donation of dictionaries
I would like to thank the Northwich
Rotary for a donation of dictionaries
that we received last week – thank
you to Rupert Adams who delivered
them to us – we will find them very
useful.
