During her recent teaching block, Crystal demonstrated excellent teaching skills overall. She was hard
working, organised, and her interim report and PLP, with the self evaluation, were detailed and
perceptive.

Crystal included detailed lesson plans for both the observed lessons and the intended learning outcomes
were made very clear at the beginning of the lessons and an effective review of the previous lessons
effective lesson introductions. Crystal displayed strong content knowledge when teaching both the
Visual Arts and English lessons. She effectively moved around the classroom giving individual support
and feedback to the students. Her questioning techniques were appropriate with Crystal ensuring that
the students were given opportunities to expand on their answers and explain them in more detail. The
students were also strongly encouraged to be creative. The lessons were well sequenced and structured
and it was obvious that Crystal had included tasks for students with varying abilities enabling them to
be challenged. Varied activities during the lessons catered for all to complete appropriate learning tasks
during the lessons.

Crystal had a very relaxed and calm manner in the classroom. Students willingly participated and it was
very apparent that they enjoyed having Crystal as their teacher. With continued development of her
behaviour management strategies, as well as constantly being aware of the importance of planning
appropriate tasks for students with diverse learning abilities, I am confident that Crystal will be a very
competent teacher.

I wish her all the very best.

SUMMARY STATEMENT (May be used as a referee statement)

Professional Knowledge

Crystal aimed to involve students in their learning through diverse learning methods. She encouraged
visual, verbal, and logical learning styles throughout her lesson plans that combined these elements
and as such enabled many in the class to achieve the set outcomes comfortably. I encourage Crystal to
focus on continuously improving her behaviour management strategies. Through having a clear
process, with a logical progression of known consequences, she will feel more confident in the
implementation of these steps.

Crystal demonstrated detailed knowledge and understanding of the subject content. She carefully
researched the literary techniques that arose from the class texts and showcased her understanding
through class discussions and supporting documentation.

Our classroom is made up of students with diverse learning and social needs. After consultation,
Crystal was able to identify students who required extra learning support and modified assessment
tasks in order to encourage academic success. Here, she addressed the required learning outcomes of
the assignment but altered the method and/or learning style in order to meet both the needs of the
Australian Curriculum and the individual. This proved successful, with students being able to achieve
their learning goals.

Professional Practice

Crystal demonstrated detailed as well as flexible unit and lesson planning. She completed lesson plans
which we discussed prior to their implementation in class in which each task was allocated a certain
amount of time. This demonstrated thorough and meticulous planning. Crystal endeavoured to provide
constructive feedback to her students. Her comments were fair and encouraging and she sought
clarification in regards to grade allocation when required. Our learning environment was challenging at
times. Crystal was aware of this and openly employed strategies such as moving individual students, in
order to continuously promote a safe and supportive environment. This was done in a fair and
equitable manner with the interests of all of her students in mind.

Professional Engagement

Crystal actively partook in professional conversations with staff and peers in a bid to continuously
evolve and improve her teaching methodologies. She willingly welcomed constructive feedback and
attempted to implement the suggestions made which showcased her desire to develop as a
practitioner. Crystal demonstrated a genuine interest in all of her students whilst at Tyndale. She
fostered trusting and respectful relationships through continuous academic encouragement, open
dialogue, moving throughout the space and connecting with every student during many lessons.
