ARCHITECTURE

USING LESS,LIVING MORE AND BEING NATURAL

BY – UMANG SHANDILYA
ORIGIN
•“Organic Architecture” is also known as “Bionic Architecture”.
the term BIONIC ARCHITECTURE refers to a movement of design and
construction of expressive building whose layout and lines are borrowed
by NATURE.

•Vernacular architecture was innately organic, as vernacular architecture

is based on natural form structure and simple local material.

•Inspired by the proverb “FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION ”.

•In the new age organic architecture has reached new heights by
employing newer materials and technology in the application of natural
shapes to create continuity in the building.
FRANK LLOYD
WRIGHT
•The term ORGANIC
ARCHITECTURE was invented by
great Architect Frank Lloyd Wright
(1867-1959).

•Although the word “Organic”

usually refers plants or animals or
anything related to nature but his
interpretation was an idea which
was to promote harmony between
man made structure and nature
around through design approach as
a unified composition.

•He believed that building should

complement its environment ,
building should work as a cohesive
organism.
OBJECTIVES
•Organic Architecture not only addresses environment concern but also
expresses individuality.

•Each building is related to variables like

Man
Site
Time

•The belief that a building should appear to grow easily from its site.

•Choosing one dominant form of a building and integrating that form

throughout.

•Opening up spaces.

•Providing a place for natural foliage.

ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE IS A LIVING ARCHITECTURE.

•Using natural colors : “Go into the woods and field for color
schemes”.

•Revealing the nature of materials.

CONCRETE GLASS

CONCRETE is fluid. GLASS is transparent

and allows light to filter
in.
WOOD is sturdy and flexible
•BRICK AND STONE are solid.

He allowed materials to perform as their nature.

•Organic Architecture utilizes strong ,

rational GEOMETRY to create a
building that can be understood
as single entity.

•Buildings should be in continuity in structure,

space and form.

“I’D LIKE TO HAVE FREE ARCHITECTURE.I’D LIKE TO HAVE ARCHITECTURE

THAT BELONGED WHERE YOU SEE IT AS GRACE TO THE LANDSCAPE INSTEAD
OF DISGRACE”
ADVANTAGES
•Introducing nature through trees and open spaces doesn’t only look
nice but also gives you wellness benefits.

•There is growing lack of interaction between man and nature which has
created a void, Organic Architecture with free flowing and curvilinear
organic forms fills this void enhancing the city aesthetically with spirit of
marvel.

•It creates a eco-friendly buildings which provide improved indoor air

quality , optimal comfort ,proper ventilation and health.

•It eliminates possible causes of SBS (SICK BUILDING SYNDROME).

•Organic buildings are more economic as they increase the asset value
and profits by giving higher employee satisfaction.

ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE IS VERY SIMPLE…“NATURE OF THINGS”

INCORPORATION OF ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE IN
ORGANIC HOMES
•By providing curvilinear and free flowing structure for
aerodynamics.

•Providing cross ventilation.

•By providing wall insulation

Brick- Rat trap bond
Glass-double glazing
unit glass.

•Preserving the top soil.

•Maximizing the plantation of trees.

•Increasing the soft scape of site and decreasing the hard scape.

•Using earthy colors like yellow , orange and brown.

•Increasing day light.

•Letting the materials to perform their nature

wether it is brick,stone,wood,concrete or
glass.

•Design the buildings as such that the

building should compliment the site and the
compositon should serve as a unified
structure.
