K-12 Space:
Equipment: Ball- size depending on age of student, bean bag.

Individual Practice
- Individually the student can throw and catch the ball with two hands.
- Individually the student can throw and catch the ball with one hand. (right or left)
- Individually the student can throw the ball onto the wall, then catch it with both hands
- Individually the student can throw the ball onto the wall, then catch it with one hand.
(right or left)
- Individually the student can bounce the ball, hit the wall and then catch it with two
hands.
- Individually the student can bounce the ball, hit the wall and then catch it with one hand.
(right or left)
- The teacher can change the size of the ball or material according to the age of the
student. (For example, students can use a bean bag or a balloon)
Partner Work
- With a partner, students can throw the ball, using an under-hand throw, and catch with
both hands.
- With a partner, students can throw the ball, using an over head throw, and catch it with
both hands.
- With a partner, students can throw the ball to each other and catch it with only one hand.
(right or left)
- With a partner, students can throw the ball to each other and then catch it. If students
catch the ball, they should move a step back. Getting further away from each other as
they play
Group Work
- In a group the students could practice their catching. This can be done with one person
in the middle of a circle. Students can practice their throwing and catching in groups of
6.
Key Teaching Points
1. Students need to be taught to always keep their eyes on the ball. They should be taught
that wherever the ball goes your eyes should follow.
2. The students should be taught to keep their hands out in front of their body.
3. The students should be taught to move their hands to meet the ball.
4. Students should be taught to soften their fingers when they catch, this insures students
will not get hurt.
