In previous lessons, students have learnt about the
power of Jesus’ love to be able to forgive sins.
Students have also learnt about different ways to
forgive and the wondered about God and why He
gave us the power to love and forgive.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):


In groups of four, the students complete ‘Jesus Forgives Sins’, an
20 activity provided on page 79 in the Year 4 Loved and Forgiven Book.

Focus Questions:
What is a ‘sin’? 

How does a person know if a word, thought or action is a sin? 

What important questions does a person need to ask themselves to
work out if they have sinned? 

What do we mean by ‘God’s Law’?

After students have completed the activity each group will share an
answer with the rest of the class. Students are encouraged to add to
their section throughout the class discussion.
The teacher will remind the students that Jesus wants to forgive the
sins of the whole human race, so that they can grow closer to God.
Today priests have the power to forgive sins that Jesus first gave the
Apostles. They exercise this power in the Sacrament of Penance.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)


Review the definition and the meaning of sin as a class.

the right choices. Discuss our conscience and how it allows us to know
the difference between right and wrong.
