find
(a) the range,
(b) the variance.

19. A set of six data has a mean of 9 and the sum of squares is 1250. If the number 7 is removed from the set of
data, find the standard deviation of the remaining set of data.

20. Diagram shows an isosceles triangle OPQ, such that 𝑂𝑃 = 𝑃𝑄 = 25 cm and ∠𝑃𝑂𝑄 = 0.87 radians. PR is
an arc of a circle with centre O.

24. It is given that 𝑦 = 2𝑥 2 + 8𝑥. When x changes from 2 to 𝛼, the corresponding small change in y is 32p.
Express 𝛼 in terms of p.

25. Gas is released from a spherical balloon with a constant rate 0.32 cm3s-1. Find the rate of change of the
radius of the balloon in terms of 𝜋 when the radius is 10 cm.

2. The quadratic function 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 − 2𝑝𝑥 − 𝑞 has a minimum value of −7 − 𝑝2 , where p and q are
constants. The graph of the function is symmetrical about 𝑥 = 𝑞 − 4.
(a) By using the method of completing the square, find the value of p and of q.
(b) Sketch the graph of the quadratic function.
