CITIZEN CHARTER

The main objectives are :-

1. Provide security to life and property of the citizens of the Union Territory.

Responsibility

1. Maintain Law and Order.


2. Prevention and detection of crimes.
3. Verification of character and antecedents of the Passport/job applicants.
4. Provide un interrupted communication between the islands and Headquarters.
5. Assist public under any exigency.
6. Provide security to the VIP visiting/staying in the islands.
7. Check and contain the activities of undesirable elements.

Facilities extended to the public

1. Lodging of criminal complaints.


2. Passport Cell for issue of International Passport (at H.Q. island Kavaratti only).
3. Issue of entry permit to mainlanders sponsored by the islanders and U. T. of
Lakshadweep Administration.
4. Assistance in ships plying between mainland and islands.
5. Assistance to fisherman visiting Suheli island

THE LAKSHADWEEP PROHIBITION REGULATION 1979
 
 
Citizen 1. Lakshadweep Prohibition Regulation 1979  extends to whole of
Charter the   Union Territory. As per the Section 3 of the Regulation import, export,
transportation, possession and manufacture of liquor or any intoxicating drugs
  is prohibited in all the islands. Being an international Tourist center, Bangaram 
is exempted.
   
2.All the offence under the Regulation are cognizable and the provisions

  3.Violation of the provisions of the Regulation shall be punishable  with
imprisonment for a term, which may extent to one year or with fine, which may

1.As per the Rules no person who is not a native of the island  shall  enter
Application or reside in or attempt to enter or reside in the island except under and in
forms accordance with a permit issued by a competent authority.
 
 
2.Provided that no such a permit shall be necessary in the case of the

before the     commencement   of     these    rules   and members  of the families of such
  persons.

  (b)       b)                   Members   of   Armed   Forces    of    the    Indian    Union   entering the islands

(c)         c)       Persons   serving  in  connection  with  the Administration of the islands
proceeding to the islands on official duty and members of their families.

Explanation:- for the   purposes   of this   rule, the family includes his or her spouse and
dependent children.

  A permit  may be  issued,  renewed  or  endorsed  by the competent authority for 
entering into such island or islands and for residence therein for such period, as     may be
specified in the permit. 

3) Every permit issued on an application under Rule 5 may be renewed or


endorsed on  an  application   made  in  the  prescribed  form  and  submitted 
through  the  nearest registration  officer  at least  15  days  in  advance  of  the
date on which the permit is due to expire, or the date with  effect from which
such endorsement required. An application for renewal or endorsement of a
permit shall be accompanied by the permit in respect of which the application is
made.

4) The holder of a permit shall not enter or leave an island otherwise than
at such a port as may be specified therein.

5) A permit shall be valid only for the island or islands endorsed thereon
and the holders thereof shall not enter or attempt to enter any other islands or
islands without getting the permit endorsed for such other island or islands.

6) The holder of a permit shall, as soon as possible and in any case within
24 hours after his arrival in any island, report with his permit to the nearest
