THE HARVEST IS OVER
N ow that we’ve had our Harvest
thanksgiving so early in the year, it
certainly feels like its going to be a long
winter! However, it will hopefully not be an
idle one in the parish. By the time you read
this, the Boy’s Club, Badminton Club, Bowls
Club, Rainbow’s, Brownies and Guides will all
have started their autumn season. The Sunday
night Youth Fellowship will also have started
and hopefully the Friday Youth Club will have
a programme ready to run. You will also be
able to look forward to another Country
Concert (Oct 27th) and Pantomime (Dec 4th).
The mid-week Bible Study group will start on
Thursday October 14th at 8pm and run for 6
weeks (see dates below). I would truly love to
see more people making use of this
opportunity to delve deeper into their faith. I
get the impression sometimes that
parishioners feel that they have to be
particularly “learned” or confident in their faith
in order to attend a Bible Study. In the same
way that people can have a phobia about
learning to use a computer, there is also a
phobia about faith-based activities, even in a
church. I can understand that. I must confess

to being reluctant to attend similar meetings
that are held for clergy, for fear that my own
lack of knowledge will be revealed and that
I’ll be “showed up”. There is one such meeting
that I haven’t been to for years because I can’t the pulpit
read Hebrew! Our own Bible Study is not an
academic lecture, it is not a place where you
have to sit exams or have any background
knowledge. You do not have to speak or
debate. The primary aim is to give you
encouragement to reflect on your faith, to
challenge you to look a little deeper and, if
possible to find a few answers. Do give some
thought to coming out on a Thursday night to
this group.

BICENTENARY CELEBRATION
T he Bicentenary celebration weekend was
absolutely wonderful. The feedback from
all the services, especially Friday night, has
been superb and it was a real privilege to take
part. Our thanks go to all who helped with the
arrangements. The photos are on the website
and there are a few in this magazine to
remind you of the occasion.

The following prayer was used at our

bicentenary service and was “borrowed” from
the magazine of St Mark’s Armagh.
Father of all, we pray that to this church all
may be welcome.
Here may little ones love to come and young
people be strengthened for the battle of life.

Here may parents find encouragement, those

at work be helped in their decisions, the lonely
find fellowship and the elderly be affirmed in
their faith.

Here may the doubting find hope; the
despairing find joy, those under pressure
experience peace and all who suffer illness
know your healing touch.
Here may all of us be assured of forgiveness
and be challenged by your love, heard in Holy
Scriptures and faithfully proclaimed in the
preaching of the Word and the celebration of
the sacraments.

AN UPDATE FROM OUR
MISSION PARTNERS –
At the start of the summer, Aart and Geesje
were blessed by the arrival of their 4th child,
Lisa. The family will be home for 6 months
after Christmas and will hopefully be visiting
us in Mullavilly. Next autumn, we are planning
to send a small team to visit with them in
Arua. The following is their latest update.
Lisa (8 weeks old now) is asleep while the
other kids are all off to school and nursery. A
good time to catch up on news from Arua.
Great news of course is the safe and quick (not
taking into account the 10 waiting days after
the due date) arrival of Lisa on the 22nd of
June. She was born here at home, with
wonderful assistance from 2 English CMS
midwives. We are very grateful to our
Heavenly Father for the people He provided to
surround us with around the time of giving
birth. The staff on our compound gave her a
Lugbara name too; Asianzu, which means
Peace. Our little girl was baptised here at the
cathedral, it was very special to be welcomed
into the local church family and the world
wide church community during the service.
THE NEW
GLOSSY
MAGAZINE
The new glossy magazine was very well
received last month and the Select Vestry
have agreed to continue this standard of
publicationwith 5 editions per year .
Obviously, it is considerably more expensive
than a photocopy. We considered both
subscriptions and sponsorship as a way of
financing the magazine and agreed to seek
sponsors. If you would like to be associated
with the sponsors, please contact Ian Milne.

Carpentry & Joinery plus Brickbuilding &
Concrete students have been and are still busy
at various locations in Arua. The VTC was given
several contracts in the community. This
means more practice, more work experience
and a little more local income for the school.
More over we pray that the workmen and
their workmanship will be blessed, that
people from outside will recognise that they
are doing a good and fair job, so that our God
is given glory in our daily practice.
Driving&Mechanic students are also getting
their hands on. More and more organisations The Den Breejen family with their new
