* May coordinate and supervise installation of specialized intersections, safety
lighting and interconnect systems;
May interface with client departments and contractors;
May review construction work in progress and upon completion;
May train, assign and supervise personnel;
May analyze, review and make recommendations on plans and
specification
May plan and schedule work;
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of complex electronic
analog and digital solid state equipment. Satisfactory completion of college
level courses in electronics and/or computer programming may be substituted
for experience on a year-for-year basis;
Knowledge of associated test equipment and computers ;
Ability to perform heavy manual labor;
Ability to read schematics and blueprints;
Good oral and written communication skills;
Willingness to work in an aerial bucket truck at heights of up to 45 feet.
Willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays;
A valid California Class C motor vehicle operator license;
A valid California Class B motor vehicle operator's license within six months
of appointment and must comply with the Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse
Prevention Program for Commercial Vehicle Operators as required by the
Department of Transportation regulations,

CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
TITLE: TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN I - Il
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs skilled work on analog and
digital solid state controllers, computers and other solid state traffic control
equipment.
REPORTS TO: Traffic Signal Coordinator
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Grade Level | - Performs the duties of the classification.
Grade Level II- Supervises and performs the duties of the classification and has
a Level II International Municipal Signal Association certificate.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
* Adapts, assembles, installs, maintains, wires, modifies, and updates traffic
signals, microwave and cable telemetering systems and control equipment;
+ Synchronizes traffic signal systems;
«Strings and pulls wires and cables;
* Operates environmental chamber to test equipment to State and NEMA
specifications;
* Tests and calibrates traffic control equipment to State and NEMA.

Reconstructs and refurbishes traffic signal equipment;
Assists in designing and fabricating special electronic apparatus and systems;
Installs traffic signal service and controller cabinets;
Installs traffic signal poles, pedestrian and vehicle indicators and other related
equipment;
Installs and repairs traffic signal conduit, traffic signal safety lighting and
illuminated street name signs;
Checks signal coordination and timing;
Repairs AC outlets, switches, small motors, controls and battery chargers;
Performs light maintenance on tools;
Performs heavy manual labor;
Observes safety rules and regulations;
Maintains records and prepares reports;
May determine job requirements and estimate costs;
May coordinate and supervise the programming of traffic signal computer
systems, including installation; repair of microwave, aerial and underground
cable control systems;
