This document provides an overview of the symbol libraries, databases, and file locations used in AutoCAD Electrical 2017. Key features include schematic, panel, and PLC symbol libraries that comply with common standards. The software uses database files to look up part catalog information, footprint mappings, and schematic mappings. Standard files define available circuits, component descriptions, project information, and more. File locations include user folders as well as installation folders.

AutoCAD Electrical provides library symbols that comply with Catalog Lookup – parts catalog database. the standards: The following naming convention and search sequence is IEEE 315/315A used: IEC-60617 <project name>_CAT.MDB located in the same folder NFPA as the .wdp file for the active project The symbols are located in DEFAULT_CAT.MDB located in the same folder as the \Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Acade {version}\Libs .wdp file for the active project DEFAULT_CAT.MDB located in Icon Menus \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade Use the icon menu to insert schematic and panel components. {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs The program defaults to icon menu ACE_<standard>_MENU.DAT DEFAULT_CAT.MDB located in a support folder for schematic symbols and ACE_PANEL_MENU.DAT for panel Footprint Lookup – maps the graphical footprint symbols symbols. These menu files are located in to catalog part numbers. The following naming convention \Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD and search sequence is used: Electrical {version}\{release}\{country code}\Support. <project name>_FOOTPRINT_LOOKUP.MDB located in the same folder as the .wdp file for the active project Circuit Builder FOOTPRINT_LOOKUP.MDB located in the same folder ACE_CIRCUIT_BUILDER.XLS - defines the available circuits, as the .wdp file for the active project circuit types, and defaults for each option within a circuit. FOOTPRINT_LOOKUP.MDB located in Located in \Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Acade \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade {version}\Support\{language code}. {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs ACE_ELECTRICAL_STANDARDS.MDB - defines default values and FOOTPRINT_LOOKUP.MDB located in a support folder engineering calculations, annotates circuits, and provides wire Schematic Lookup – maps the schematic symbols when type analysis. Located in \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade inserted from panel footprints. The following naming {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs. convention and search sequence is used: Din Rail and Wireway <project name>_SCHEMATIC_LOOKUP.MDB located in WDDINRL.XLS – used to parametrically generate din rail and the same folder as the .wdp file for the active project wireway. Located in \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade SCHEMATIC_LOOKUP.MDB located in the same folder {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs. as the .wdp file for the active project SCHEMATIC_LOOKUP.MDB located in Miscellaneous Text Files \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade WD_DESC.WDD – lists various standard component description {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs selections; click Defaults on the Insert/Edit dialog boxes. SCHEMATIC_LOOKUP.MDB located in a support folder WD_FAM.DAT - maps the family codes to new values, overriding WD_LANG1.MDB – used when convert description or the family tag code of the library symbols. switch position component text from one language to DEFAULT.WDT – attribute mapping file for Title Block update. another. Located in \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs. DEFAULT.WDA – user-defined attribute list used in reports. ACE_PLC.MDB – used to generate PLC I/O modules. DEFAULT.INST, DEFAULT.LOC - lists the default installation and Located in \Users\{username}\Documents\Acade location codes, accessible by clicking Project in the Installation {version}\AeData\{language code}\PLC. or location section of the Insert/Edit dialog boxes. Note: AutoCAD Electrical 2017 supports using SQL Server DEFAULT_WDTITLE.WDL - customizes the generic LINEx labels in for the catalog and footprint content. the various title block and project information dialog boxes.
