Flex Reader Wiegand Info

Wiegand Protocol

Each of the four reader ports: A,B,C and D have independent three wire Wiegand output
connections consisting of a Data 0, Data 1 and Ground pins in respective order on the connector..
The outputs are provided via removable jumpers, a 5 volt DC 1K ohm pull up source and
ground. Each of the output lines may be opto-isolated from the reader voltage and ground
reference by removing the associated jumpers. With the jumpers removed, the host data system
must provide its own voltage and ground for data transmission. The output data stream is menu
configurable from 26 to 34 data bits which include two parity bits. The output pulse width is
reader menu configurable from 50 to 1500 usec as is the data stream direction which may be
selected as msb or lsb sent first.

A standard 2PSK transponder output can be represented by a 26 bit data stream where bit 26 is
an even parity bit for the first half of the 24 bit data stream. Bits 25 through 18 represent the
transponder Facility Code and bits 17 through 2 represent the Customer ID. Bit 1 in an odd
parity bit for the second half of the 24 bit data stream.

A Caltrans Title 21 (T-21) transponder 32 bit data stream may be transmitted via the Wiegand
port if the data stream length is set to 34 bits.

30 Bit Configured Wiegand Output for the Sentex Interface Panel:

The Identity Flex Transponder’s lower 32 Bits must be altered from the standard format to
satisfy the requirements of the Sentex Interface Panel. Table 1 depicts the programming format
for a normally programmed transponder. Table 2 depicts the programming format for a 2PSK
transponders configured to support the Identity Flex Reader interfacing to a Sentex Panel via a
30 bit Wiegand protocol.

The Differences in the custom programmed transponder are:

• The addition of the 6 bit OEM Code (Always decimal value 60)
• The Changing of the Facility Code number from a 8 bit number (Maximum Decimal Value =
256) to a 6 bit number (Maximum Decimal Value = 63).
Note: If either of the two least significant bits of the OEM code are set to values of 1, the Identity Flex
Reader will interpret these bits as parts of an 8 bit Facility Code.

Transponder ID Number Qualification

Transponder identification numbers must be qualified before the reader enables the Lamp or Gate Discrete Outputs
or sends the tag ID information to the host. The transponder qualification parameters include:

• Dealer Code
2PSK Dealer Code. A matching dealer code must be entered in the reader. If the dealer code does not
match the tag is statused as “Not Found” and will not qualify.

• Facility Code
Translated 2PSK or T-21 ID into a lower 32 ID with correct Facility Code. If the Facility Code does not
match, the tag is statused as “Bad FC” and will not qualify.

• Blocking Transponder Translated ID

The translated ID number may be statused as Allowed or Blocked. If statused as Blocked the qualification
process will not allow the operation of the discrete outputs or the sending of the tag ID to the host system.
