Observation report

The following report in intended to describe teacher Armando Robleto’s class

who is in charge of level two and is using the Open Mind book 1. There are eleven
students in his class. Since the observations were not announced, there was not
pre-observation meeting. The observation was carried out on Saturday, October
14th, 2017 at 04:30 pm.

Regarding the lesson plan, the objectives were quite clear, but it is recommended
to write the based on function. Also, the objectives should be written in a more
specific way. By the time the observation started, the teacher was explaining the
function and different usages of verb to be by using a mind map. Grammar is
taught deductively and inductively as well. After having completed the
explanation the teacher elicited some examples on the different uses of verb to
be. During the time the students were intervening, the teacher carried out some
corrections. Regarding the way he corrected students, I would recommend that
corrections should be more formal since some student might feel offended or
embarrassed by being corrected in that way. Finally, the students carried out a
drilling exercise to practice pronunciation.

Other comments

 More practice time should be given to students

 There was no use of visual aids during the observation.
 The way students are corrected should be improved.

In conclusion teacher Armando’s class was good since the content presented
was basically more than enough for students and they seemed not to have big
difficulties regarding the content. On the other hand, it would be recommendable
to increase the STT and reduce TTT so that the class becomes more effective
and productive as well.
