 1. Introduction
This internship program is held by OACS(Ontario Alliance of
Christian School) in Canada. The purpose of internship
program is to get experience of teaching in English with
Christian mind. Also it helps to improve English. You will be a
teaching assistant (or you call it STUDENT TEACHER) and
help whoever needs your help in school. But mostly you'll
support teachers. Where I worked is Burlington Christian
Academy which is in Burlington, Ontario. They have JK (Junior
Kindergarten) to Grade.8 and about 160 students and 20
teachers. I helped every grade whichever need help anytime.
Also I taught Gr.3 bible class and manage some student who
needs help personally. During school event, had to work as a
staff.
 2. What I did
2.1 In Class
 Personal help
I helped some student who needs personal help. I got three kids
to help. First one is 1-grader boy. He needed some to print the
alphabet instead of him in every spelling class. He has been
getting better to print and read the alphabet. Second one is 6-
grader boy. He barely payed attention to teacher. I helped him to
sit and make him listen to teacher in every math class. Of course,
he did really good job and has been chosen the most improve
student in his class. The last one is international student. She's
from Korea. When she just came to school she barely spoke
English. I tried to make her brave and studied English with her.
And sometimes gave her advice and managed her school stuff as
one of person who is from the same country. Now she's doing
amazing job and enjoying her school life.
 Entire thing
Supporting every class which needs some extra hand. Each day
had been rotating by my own schedule. Sometimes teacher
changed their schedule. So I recorded what I've done each day.
 Teaching
Taught Gr.3 bible twice a week for last 2 months.

2.2 During school event

They had have lots of event every month. Olympic day, Grandparents
day, French cafe day, SK graduation and field trip. During the event I
supported them as a staff and did whatever we did for the event. For
example when we were going to field trip I was in charge of some of kid
to be safe.

3. What I taught

3.1 Introduction.
I taught Gr.3 bible twice a week(sometimes once a week. Because of the
school event.). They are such a big class. But the sweetest class in
B.C.A. They knew that I'm not going to be perfect so they tried to behave
in my class and did very good job.

3.2 Lesson.
Teacher gave me the bood for lesson. I taught the miracle of Jesus. Each
lesson has to check the bible and has to do the exercise sheet. For 2
months, I taught five stories of Jesus' miracle. And It was....
① Jesus turned water into wine.
② Jesus fed more than 5,000 people.
③ Jesus walked on the water.
④ Jesus healed the blind man
⑤ Lazarus from death.
3.3 Preparing process
Before teaching the class, I made the script for each class. Actually I
barely used it when I was teaching them. But to make the script is helpful
for making arrangement in my brain. The materials must to be prepared
before the class. And I made the evaluation card and gave teachers who
was in the class during I was teaching. So they filled with the card and
gave me some advice to improve teaching skill. That really helped to
feedback myself. Most of all, Prayer is the most important thing of
preparing.

3.4 Result
Even though I had very hard time, I've got cheer from everyone in
school. As a result, everything went well. I hope God is happy about that.
 4. Where I lived in (Homestay)

I got Canadian family. That's all I want to say. I've tried to do my best to
do something for them like a family. (Empty the dish washer is my job.) I
liked to go to school with my homestay mom (Aggi) at 7:30 for extended
care. To go to school early was not easy. Sometimes I woke up late. But
it was really happy to spend time with her in the school at morning. Leigh
was also an extended care teacher before he started playing rugby. He is
really faithful and always willing to help me. Oma(Grandmother) is kind of
my spiritual supporter. She's always cheering for me. To be honest I
haven't have any problem with my homestay family. Even I really want to
stay with them more time If I can. They taught me English a lot and made
me realize how much God cares about me. I really love my Canadian
family. I really appreciate that OACS gave me such a wonderful family.
So did God. Thank you.
 5. What I would recommend
① Use the proper name.
Please when you introduce yourself make student call you your official
name(Miss. Kim or Mr. Lee). It seems to be unfamiliar to use official
name. But the student actually wants to call you with your official name.
On the other hand teachers can call you your name. That's the way to
make the proper co-worker ship with other teachers.
② Get your teaching schedule as soon as possible.
Maybe to get my own teach schedule is so afraid. But If you get your
own schedule you will get used to it. Even though your English is not
perfect, it really doesn't make a big problem. When you're preparing for
your teaching, your English is getting better and better. It will be help
you a lot. Whoever teacher really likes to give you your own teaching
schedule as well. Don't worry. You can do it!
③ Get along with everyone.
Relationship is one of most important things. Actually you will be kind of
bridge between teacher and student. Use this good advantage wisely.
④ Be careful to treat student.
Punishment, hugging, education system.. Most of things are totally
different from Korean. You have to know how different we are and try to
understand their culture. Please be careful to treat student. Give them a
proper hug. Give them a proper punishment. Actually it's so hard to act
"PROPERLY".
⑤ Be busy.
Make yourself busy. It does not mean to be out of your mind. It means to
do your best all the time. If you have nothing to do, go to any class and
ask them how you help them. Teacher will give you a job. Even it will be
a break, enjoy your break time to do your best.
⑥ Don't be afraid of speaking English.
I wasn't good at English. Even now I'm perfect. But think about Korean.
We're still learning Korean and we will as long as we live, even though
Korean is our first language. Same as English. There's no end to learn
English. So don't be afraid of speaking English. Do not push yourself. We
don't have to be perfect. But! Do Your Best AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.
⑦ Don't forget God is always with you.
This is the main advice I really want to say. For sure you will have such
a hard time during this program. God has a plan for you. That's why he
gives you hard time. Do not be frustrated. God will show you how much
looks after you through everyone around you. Your students and co-
workers are the evidence of God's love for you.
