We visited few sites one was near padra, second was a Vuda near Vadsar brigde, one was a
Pol/Pod in city area and last was .

We identified few problem areas like in Padra there was an issue of cleanliness and drainage
but as we talked to people we came to know that VMC is currently working on their area
and our involvement wasn’t necessary. There we interviewed people sat with them had a
good talk through which we could understand everything.

In pod we talked to man who had his wholesale business there we discussed our own
Solutions which were regarding the roofing, how they can tie their clothes to dry
comfortably, a great idea was the hydroponics in which with the help of a Pvc pile and
without the use of extreme fertilizers they could grow organics vegetables for their own and
for professional purpose too. As far about the Vuda people didn’t entertain us and asked us
to leave as a lot of people use to visit do nothing about it.

Identification of problem- Wastage of RO water

In the end we decided to take up and major issue which was RO waste water which caused a
lot of wastage, about 4 gallons wasted per 1 gallon purified (4:1) if you are on a municipal
water supply with good pressure, or about 1:1 if you have the permeate pump. It will
produce waste water whenever its producing pure water, until the storage tank is full and
the RO faucet is closed. Remember that while the RO faucet dispenses the water into your
cup relatively quickly, the RO system produces the water to refill the storage tank relatively
slowly - about 50 gallons per day, which translates into 1 gallon every 30 minutes.

We selected this problem because it is faced by many households everywhere we can help
and solve peoples simple problem with some simple easy to do solutions.

With the help of the literature review we identified these solutions-

1- Draining water pipe line is now connected with one big basket not hanging in the
sink like before.
Where we use it? - Use it for Plants
2- Use it for your Car wash - Giving your car a shower can take up to seven buckets of
water—and more if you are being careful with your hose pipe.
3- Wash Your Utensils- Another useful application for RO waste water is to wash your
utensils. Simply store the waste water in bucket or tank, make sure you place the
bucket for collecting RO waste water near your kitchen sink so it can be used easily
when you clean your utensils.
 4- Floor mopping- Using the RO waste water for mopping the floor is easy and will
definitely save tens of litres of clean water every day. If you have a bigger house then
the savings could be in hundreds of litres every single day.
5- Water recycling technique outside india- There are a number of technologies used to
recycle water, depending on how pure it needs to be and what it will be used for.
Here’s how it’s done at the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment plant in San Diego—
the city is currently studying the feasibility of recycling water for drinking.

Sewage first goes through advanced primary treatment in which water is separated from
large particles, then enters sedimentation tanks where chemicals are used to make primary
sludge settle to the bottom and scum rise to the top. Once the water is separated out, 80%
of the solids have been removed, and the wastewater is clean enough to be discharged to
the ocean.

6- The RO filter is on the inside of an exterior wall. At this point we'd just like to route
the water outside and let it run out onto our lawn. A small pond would be nice to
admire and look at.
7- Washing clothes with waste RO water is perfect because salt content in it is
powered to take dirt away.
8- The waste RO water can be used to remove the hard residual water.
9- Cleaning and flushing toilets- Another big source of clean water wastage in modern
homes is use of toilet flush. Every single flush sends approximately 5 to 7 litres of
potable water down the drain.RO waste water can be used effectively to reduce this
wastage of clean water by using it to flush your toilets.
10- You can create an overhead tank which collects the RO waste water and use the
waste water from this tank directly in your washing machine.
11- You can also boil eggs with this water as eggs don’t tend to break with Ro waste
water.
12- Waste RO water can be used for brewery purposes at home on balancing TDS
content.
13- One can bathe with the RO waste water with saline touch in it and mixing some
plain water.

14- The waste RO water can be used to clean sewage pipe at home or kitchen because
of its saline nature.
15- The new technology called "Zero Waste" eliminates this problem by returning the
concentrate water from the reverse osmosis system back to the home's plumbing,
resulting in 100 percent efficiency. There are several versions of zero waste available
through various vendors but when shopping around, keep in mind that many of
these systems will not meet plumbing codes.
 16- Waste RO water can be used for irrigation, which needs to be mixed with normal
water to reduce its high TDS level. It is because high TDS puts adverse effects on
vegetables and or products to be eaten raw.
17- There are also new Ros which save upto 50% of waste water in separate tank.
