Directed Study- Option 3

Laman and Lemuel according to the Book of Mormon were the eldest sons of Lehi but not
withstanding they were stiff-necked people and did things which were contrary to the gospel of
Jesus Christ and always broke the commandments of God and the teachings of their father. In
chapter 2 of 1st Nephi, verses 11-14 make me to understand that they rebelled against their
father because they were to leave Jerusalem which has been their land of inheritance, their
earthly possessions and go and perish at the wilderness. Again, they murmured because they
didn’t know the ways of the Lord who has created them, and they didn’t believe that Jerusalem
was truly going to be destroyed because they knew it to be a great city.
In verse 16, I learned that Nephi sought to know the mysteries of God, so he prayed unto the
Lord, and He the Lord did come and visit him and did soften his heart not to rebel against his
father.
In chapter 3, I learned that Lehi told his sons to go for the brass plates that contained the words
of God and the genealogy of their fathers. Yet again Laman and Lemuel did murmur again and
told their father that it was a hand thing for them to do. Whiles Nephi said he will go and do the
things the Lord has commanded because he know that the Lord will have a way prepared for
them to accomplish it. In verse 14, after Laman fled from the presence of Laban when he has
taken their possession and sought to kill him, Laman and Lemuel decided to go back to the
wilderness and told their father what has happened, but Nephi was persisted and told them to
go to Laban again. Laman and Lemuel were angry and spoke many harsh words against their
young brothers, and even caned them with rods because they were chased again for the
second time but Nephi persisted and he eventually killed Laban because God told him to kill
him.
The Lord reminded Nephi of what He told him in the wilderness that his will forever occupied
the land as their inheritance if they obey the commandments of God, so Nephi knew that the
only way that could happen is for him to kill Laban and take the sacred records away because
he knew the Lord has delivered Laban into his hands.
I learned that Nephi was persistence even when the task seemed difficult to accomplished but
notwithstanding he stood firm and did executive the task. I would also would like to emulate his
faithfulness. That in all things we need to seek the Lord in faith.
