Reflection
I enjoyed doing this Reading Enrichment Unit with the kids. I think my only struggle was
thinking like a media specialist and not a classroom teacher. One thing that I did find helpful was
collaborating with a second grade teacher to see what they was teaching in class. This made the
classroom teacher feel good about bringing their students to the media center because they knew
I was incorporating what they were teaching in my lessons. The students were engaged in the
lessons which made me feel good.
One thing that I will change is to spend more time with the Dewey decimal lesson. I felt
the chart made it easier for the kids to remember the categories but next time I will spend at least
two days.

Artifacts
This is the chart that I gave each student as guide.
Student puts her ticket inside ticket out door basket.

Students work together on the compare and contrast chart. Students compare two different
books (The Three Little Pigs and Math in the Neighborhood)
I gave this student a category from Dewey Decimal and he had to find a book in that
category that he like. The student chose a “Sorting” book as his favorite.
Students work on their K-W-L chart. It was good to see what they knew before the lesson
and what they learned at the end of the lesson.
