For a dental graduate, it is imperative to select the job and employment wisely in the early stages of the career as these choices will define his experience and future career prospects a lot.  The first step before going for an interview or applying for the job is to prepare a resume or curriculum vitae (CV). The resume is the most important document which will inform the employer of your personal, professional and social credentials. But many times the fresh dental graduates or clinicians fail to understand how to make a good resume and hence loses many opportunities as they are unable to present their qualifications and skills well in the resume. Here we will discuss key features of resume which can be very useful for any Dental specialist like periodontist, prosthodontist, orthodontist, pedodontist, endodontist likewise while applying for the job in any dental clinic, college or hospital. Format:- There are several formats available online, from simple to cheeky or attractive. The format should not just suit you but should also suit for the job you are applying and your credentials. While in dental colleges and government posts, the crisp and straightforward resume is what is needed, the designed resume may be given to private dental clinics. The fonts used should be visible and readable. Critical Personal Details:- the first page or opening paragraph should have your full name, degrees, in short, age, sex, complete address, and contact details. One may add a photograph on them. Front cover. Aim:- a small introduction about yourself what is your purpose and why you are a suitable candidate for the job. This usually helps the employer to understand your goals. Professional Qualifications:- mention the degree, year of passing, college, University, and division scored. You may arrange the degrees in ascending order, i.e., class XII, graduation, post graduation, fellowship or super specialization. Additional certifications:- if you have any other certifications or attended any master courses which are not eligible for the degree by DCI/government, then you can write in a separate section. Experience:- Kindly mention all the details of previous employment along with complete name, an address of the company, clinic or employer, the post held, duration of the employment. If you are presently employed somewhere kindly mention that also. Publications:- if you have any publications in the state, national, international journals then mention them with proper citation format. Most of the colleges and government jobs require publications by the MDS or BDS faculties. Presentations:- If you have given any paper or poster presentation at any meet or conference then mention them. Conference attended:- will reflect your nature of continuous education. Mention all conferences and events attended in the past. Associations:- if you have any professional or social associations (IDA, AOMSI, Dental associations, Rotary, etc.) mention them in a point-wise manner. Miscellaneous details:- family details, marital status, date of birth, etc. can be mentioned here in the last. Few points should always be borne in mind before making any resume:- Never put any false information. A resume is your first legal document. Keep your resume short and crisp. Longer the resume, more challenging to read and the employer can miss or ignore the valuable information. Always sign your resume along with the date.
