Amigas de Lee

Positions: Founder and Peer-Tutor

Amigas de Lee is a club I founded in 2016 to cultivate a community of academically high achieving latino
women at Lee high school. The club was an all hispanic, all female organization consisting of 8 peer tutors and
20 academically “at risk” girls who met twice a week. We were able to make great strides in schoolwork while
addressing the causes and consequences of scholastic failures. The club was successful in promoting
academic excellence as well as embracing the Hispanic heritage and culture we shared in common. All
members passed onto the next year and were able to use this organization and both an academic and social
resource.
Extracurricular Activities
Piano

Piano has been an instrumental part of my life since the age of fourteen. I have studied under Mr. Terence
Frazor for four years and Mr. Sergei Reznikov for 1 year. I am trained classically with complementary music
theory and musicology lessons as well .

Rotary International

My involvement with Rotary began in 2016, whereupon I came to learn through my membership that Rotary
is an incredible organization which strives to promote a level of civic responsibility and global
perspective that in turn funds great work and seeks to solve world issues..

Model UN

I was in Lee High School’s chapter of Model UN from 2015- 2017. I participated in Baylor University’s
2015 MUN High School Conference on the security council. My love for diplomacy was nurtured and
enhanced my Model UN, further motivating me to research foreign exchange.

NESA Orchestra

As a pianist , I had to prepare repertoire for solo/ensemble performances but also had to study the keyboard
accompaniment for NESA’s major musicals. The orchestra installed in me the team-building and collaboration
skills I have fostered and exemplified throughout my academic career.

Work Experience
March 2011 - April 2017
The Pearl Farmers Market, San Antonio, TX -Cashier and Expediter

· Exposure to Farmers Market economy: The farmers market is a unique setting in which every vendor is
small and relies solely on the weekend’s success. The farmers market’s economic structure required me and
my family to calculate the week’s cost of preparation and attempt to maximize profit within a concentrated
margin of time.
· Family Business Experience: My step mom opened this business in 2011 with extremely limited funds, 2
girls to mother and a 1 year-old baby on her hip. Over the years, we grew this business into our family’s
primary source of income; testament not only to a dynamic work ethic, but the family’s unity to see the
success of this idea all the way through.

Spanish Language Tutor, San Antonio, TX

· Every weekday of the school year I tutor Elementary school children enrolled in Spanish language and
immersion programs.
· I enforce Spanish to be spoken exclusively throughout sessions and across all subjects including math,
science and history.
· I work with children on written and spoken Spanish to improve reading comprehension, grammar, and
oral fluency in young children.
