PR@GRAM NOTES
Apollo, the Greek god of prophecy and music, had the unique ability to foretell the future of mant
existence on earth. "Apollo Fanfare" celebrates the very best of our future through the per{ormance of
student musicians. Those very students, who are performing throughout our world with the energy
and enthusiasm reserved for the young and young-at-heart,give us all a sense of pride and optimism
for our future. With these thoughts in mind, the composer dedicates "Apollo Fanfare" to developing
band students ever;.where, our very own shining lights for the future.
NOTEST'OTHE CONDUCTOR
"Apollo Fanfare" was written and conceivec as a concert opener or closer for the beginning band!
first spring concert. Using the first eight notes of many band methods, I have striven to creare a wort<
that will capture the energy and enthusiasm of the beginning band.
Please note that the tempo can range from | 32 to l.60 beats per nrinute with effectiveness. I suggest
pushing the tempo ?S ysg near the performance dace. if possible, you may wish to consider
conducting in rwo as the post-fanfare ostinaro and flowing melody begins.
Please note that the timpani plays an important role in the performance of the piece. I lrarre limited
the Part to two pitches (Bb and F). Howeve[ the interaction with the full ensemble will create an
opportunity for the developing percussionist to be featured. I suggest assigning this part io one of
your more gifted nrusicians. In addition, please note the interaction of the luxiliary percussion
instruments rarith the ostinato patterns. lsuggest isolating those figures vu,ith lhe percussion to
ensure rhyrhmic securiry,
I hope you, your banc, and y,oui- audience enjoy "Apollo Fanfare." As ari'a;,s, I rvisir
;,ou ri-re best in
y,our nrusical endeavcrs.
