Lesson No. I-Sabbath, April 1, 1944

THE VALUE OF THE WORD OF PROPHECY
QUESTIONS
1. For what purpose is the Word of God given? Rom.
15:4.
2. For what is the Holy Scripture profitable unto all men?
2 Tim. 3:16.
NOTE: "The teaching of the Bible has a vital bearing
upon man's prosperity in all the relations of this life. It un-
folds the principles, that are the corner-stone of a nation's
prosperity,-principles with which is bound up the well-being
of society, and which are the safeguard of the family,-prin-
ciples without which no man can attain usefulness, happi-
ness, and honor in this life, or can hope to secure the future
immortal life. There is no position in life, no phase of
human experience, for which the teaching of the Bible is
not an essential preparation. Studied and obeyed, the word
of God would give to the world men of stronger and more
active intellect than will
the close application to all the
subjects that human philosophy embraces."-P.P., p. 599.
3. To what part of God's WOr'd are we to give special
he'ed? 2 Peter 1 :19.
4. How was the p,rophecy given? 2 Peter 1:2l.
5. What is the Lord able to do regarding the future. Jaa.
42:9; 46 :9, 10.
6. To whom does God reveal the secrets of the future?
Amos 3:7. To whom do the things which have been
revealed belong? Dent. 29 :29.
7. What admonition of Christ shows us the value of the
word of prophe·cy. Matt. 24:15.
8. At what time were the prophecies of Daniel to be
especially revealed unto men. Dan. 12 :4.
NOTE: "We have reached the period foretold in these
Scriptures. The time of the end is come, the visions of the
prophets are unsealed, and their solemn warnings point us
to our Lord's coming in glory as near at hand."-D.A.,
p.234.
9. Are the prophecieg given in the word of God a complete
whole? Rev. 22:18, 19.
NOTE: "Such are the warnings which God has given
to guard men against changing in any manner that which
He has revealed or commanded. These solemn denunciations
apply to all who by their influence lead men to regard
lightly the law of God. They should cause those to fear
and tremble who flippantly declare it a matter of little con-
sequence whether we obey God's law or not. All who exalt
their own opinions above divine revelation, all who would
change. the plain meaning of Scripture to suit th~ir own con-
venience, or for the sake of conforming to the world, are
taking upon themselves a fearful responsibility. The writ-
ten word, the law of God, will measure the character of
every man, and condemn all whom this unerring test shall
declare wanting."-G.C., p. 268.
10. What is the word of God d'eclared to be? Ps. 119 :105.
11. What is the last book of the Bible called? Rev. 1:1.
What is said of those who read, hear, and keep the
things contained in this book? Rev. 1 :3.
NOTE: "The book of Revelation, in connection with
the book of Daniel, especially demands study. Let every
God-fearing teacher consider how most clearly to compre-
hend and to present the gospel that our Saviour came in
person to make known to His servant John,-'The Revela-
tion of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to show
unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass.'
None should become discouraged in the study of the Reve-
lation beca, use of its apparently mystical symbols. 'If any
of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to
all liberally, and upbraideth not.' "-Ed., p. 191.

THE GI.FT OF THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY
QUESTIONS
1. Through whose wisdom and love was the gift of pro-
phecy given to the church? 1 Cor. 12:28; Eph 4:8, 11.
2. For what wonderful purpose did Jesus entrust the gift
of prophecy to His people? Eph. 4:12-16.
3. In what manner does Paul show the importance of the·
gift of prophecy? 1 Cor. 14:1-3.

4. What church is especially mentioned as having been

blessed with the gift of the spirit of prophecy? Rev.
12:17.
NOTE: 0'The remnant of the gospel church v<vill have
the gifts. War will be waged against them because they
keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of
Jesus Christ. In Rev. 19:10, the testimony of Jesus is
defined tq be the spirit of prophecy."-E.W., p. 143.
5, What is the condition of the people when the gift of
prophecy is lacking? Provo 29:18; Lam. 2:9.
6, By what test can a true prophet be identified from
the false? Isa. 8:20; Matt. 7:16-20; J·er. 28:9.
NOTE: "Jesus says, 'Beware of false prophets. . . .
Ye shall know them by their fruits.' Matt. 7:15, 16. This
is a part of the Sermon on the Mount, and all can see
that this discourse has a general application to the church
through the gospel age. False prophets are to be known
by their fruits; in other words, by their moral character.
The only standard by which to determine whether their
fruits are good or bad, is the law of God. Thus we are
brought to the law and to the testimony. True prophets
wi1l not only speak according to this word, but they will
live according to it."-E.W., p. 138.
7. What wonderful promise has the Lord given those who
faithfully believe His prophets? 2 Chron. 20:20.
8. What is the attitude of God's true people toward the
testimonies of the spirit of prophecy? Ps. 119 :24, Ill,
129.
9. What blessings come to, and what fruit is borne in the
lives of those who love and heed divine instruction?
Ps. 119:1-3.
. NOTE: "The ,Testimonies of his Spirit call your atten-
tion to the SCl'iptures, point out your defects of character,
and rebuke your g.ins. . . In many cases the Testimonies are
~ully received, the sin and indulgence broken off, and re-
formation at once commences in harmony with the light
God has given."-Vol. 5, pp. 674, 675.
10. Is the power and imperativeness of divine instruction
lessened by the death of the prophet? Josh. 1:2-8.
11. Will the prophetic gift be revived in the true church
of God before' the end? Joel 2 :28-32.
-6-
NOTE: "I was pointed down to the time when the
third angel's message was closing. The power of God had
rested upon His people; they had accomplished their work
and were prepared for the trying hour before them. They
had received the latter rain or refreshing from the presence
of the Lord, and the living testimony had been revived.
The last great warning had sounded everywhere, and it had
sth-red up and enraged the inhabitants of the earth who
would not receive the message."--E.W., p. 279.
