CCD REMINDERS…..
On Wednesday, October 24, the JH/HS students will Trick-or-Treat for canned and non perishable food items for
the Salvation Army. If you are interested in helping with this service project, please place your donated items on
your porch and we will pick them up. There will be a basket in church for those who live out of town and want to
help. If your food items do not get picked up please call Brian at 475-3767. We collected more food last year than
any other year thanks to the community that we live in. Please help us provide food for those who are in need.
…….. Brian Schmidt and the eleventh and twelfth grade class

The 11/12 grade students will collect food for the poor through the first weekend of November. Baskets are in
back of church for those who want to contribute for this service project. Call Brian at 475-3767 if you have any
questions.
Confirmation students: All paper work must be handed in to your classroom
teachers by October 24. This includes Mass attendance sheets, service
hours sheet, sponsor referral forms, and the small information cards.

Parents are asked to help decorate the Knight's Hall on Sunday morning
after mass on November 4. Please bring Baptismal, and First Communion
pictures and candles from home. Each family is asked to bring a dessert
for the reception and it can be taken to the hall before Mass starts.

First through fourth grade students have an opportunity to go to Ottawa to see a live Nativity for a field trip
on November 30. The students took notes home last Wednesday for their parents to read, sign, and return to
the classroom teachers. Please respond as soon as possible so final arrangements can be made.

The religious education teachers will be teaching Protecting all God's Children lessons November 28.
Opt-out forms will be in the back of church if parents do not want their child/children to participate.
These forms will have the lesson titles for each grade level listed on them. Opt-out forms need to
signed by a parent and sent back to the classroom teacher by November 14.

There will be no CCD NEXT Wednesday, October 31, due to Halloween.

 A special collection will be taken at masses next weekend for “2018

that occur this year.

Rural Youth Ministry Outreach

Crafted & Worthy November 17-18, 2018
A dynamic weekend for all ArchKCK youth including Mary Bielski, The Mikey Needleman Band,
Archbishop Naumann, Wichita Adore Ministries, mass, adoration, great food and great fun
The 2nd ArchKCK Rural Catholic Youth Conference will be held in Topeka on November17-18, 2018. This weekend
will be an opportunity for our parish youth to intensely experience the love of our Father and the truth, beauty and
goodness that our beautiful church offers.
Beyond the created, crafted implies something more intimate and thought-out, like the process of an artist. Every detail
of every person has been crafted by God. Each person has inherent dignity and is worthy to be called Child of a King.
RCYC is sponsored by Rural Youth Ministry Outreach, but is open to all parishes and youth of the Archdiocese. Not sure if your son or
daughter would enjoy? Talk to someone who came in 2017.Contact Kay Schmidt about payment support. Many of the kids play sports,
but the weekend of the 17th should avoid most every high school game! There is nothing more important than answering questions,
connecting our Catholic kids and offering opportunities to encounter our Lord. We hope and pray the St. Joseph Olpe families take
advantage of this opportunity.

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas Special Needs Ministry is hosting an informational
meeting to discuss the needs of families with a loved one with special needs and how each parish
can respond on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 6:30-7:45 pm at Holy Angels in Garnett, St. Rose School
Cafeteria. This is for all parish leaders and parishioners and/or families. Pizza will be provided.
Please RSVP to Jody O’Rourke at jorourke@archkck.org or 913-647-3059.

MARRIED COUPLES
The next Marriage Encounter weekend is November 9-11, 2018 in Kansas City. For more
information or to apply, please visit our website: www.wwme4youandme.org or call Tony & Barb
Zimmerman, 816-741-4066 or email tonybarbz@prodigy.net
Today is WORLD MISSION SUNDAY. We celebrate this day by remembering the revitalizing mission at the heart
of our Christian faith – to bring the Gospel to all! The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the
Faith ensures the work and service of the Mission Church, as it supports priests, religious and lay leaders who
offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s mission. Thank you
for your generosity.
NOTE: There are envelopes for this collection in the back of church.

The Parish Outreach Ministry has been busy with ongoing projects. We are continuing to visit
parishioners in the rest homes or those who are homebound, so if you know of someone who needs a visit
or a service, please contact Arlene Redeker to let us know. We are also trying to send cards to those who
are ill. If you know of someone who would appreciate a card, please let Sylvia Miller know. We also plan
to send Christmas cards to those in rest homes, so if you have an address for a parishioner in a rest home
away from here, you could also contact Sylvia Miller with that address. If you want to help with our
ministry, you can also contact Arlene Redeker. We will also have another shoe collection in January, so if
you update your shoe wardrobe during the holidays or are doing fall closet cleaning, save those gently used
old shoes for us.

Remember the Spiritual Works of Mercy that we were talking about in the summer. The four we mentioned
were: Bear Wrongs Patiently, Pray for the Living and the Dead, Admonish Sinners, and Counsel the
Doubtful. Well, there are three more. Instruct the Ignorant, Forgive Offenses, and Comfort the Afflicted.

Instruct the Ignorant. Before we start trying to improve our family and friends, we need to work on
ourselves. We need to understand what we believe as Catholics. Some ideas might be to read the Leaven and
other Catholic publications. Attend Bible study. Engage friends in religious dialogue-and keep it friendly.
We're trying to improve our knowledge, not cause division. Keep a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic
Church to refer to.

Forgive Offenses. Pray for those who hurt you. Let go of grudges. Seek forgiveness from those you may
have hurt.

Comfort the Afflicted. God calls on us to help give consolation to the brokenhearted. Just listening and
offering sympathy or empathy can be an avenue of grace and healing for those suffering from life's wounds.
