I- Transmission en Bande de Base (6 Pts.)

a- Draw the shape of signals coding the binary sequence 1011010000001 in mode:

a.1. RZ-AMI Bipolaire

a.2. HBD2-RZ
a.3. Manchester différentiel

b- Recall the characteristics of each of these coding techniques by:

b.1. DC component
b.2. Bandwidth.
b.3. Clock recovery.

c- We give the BENNET formula.

E  di 2   [ E  di  ]2 [ E  di  ]2 
G f    G kf  *  f  fb 
2 2
PSD  b
Tb Tb2 k 1

Calculate and sketch the shape of PSD for NRZ bipolar code, where the logic 1 1 V and
the logic 0  -1 V (equiprobable states)

II-Passband Transmission (8 Pts.)

a- A digital transmission is performed by modulating a carrier. The constellation diagram of
the modulation is:
a.1. Identify the type of this modulation
a.2. Make a table showing the combinations of bits (Gray-code) and the I, Q, the amplitude
and the phase of corresponded symbols.
a.3. Give the mathematical expression of the signal to be transmitted if the digital message
is: 001011000111.
a.4. Draw the bloc diagram of the modulator and demodulator of identified modulation.

b- The spectrum of identified modulated signal is the following : :

b.1. Determine: the carrier frequency and the bandwidth of the identified modulation.
b.2. Calculate the duration of each symbol.
b.3. Find the bit rate of the system.

c- Now, we use a 8-PSK modulation, where the magnitude of each vector equals 1.58 V to
insure the same average power of the modulator in a-.

c.1. Draw the constellation of 8-PSK

c.2. Find the distance between two adjacent points of 8-PSK. Compare it with that of the
modulator in a-. Comment on the obtained results.

III. Source coding and channel coding (6 pts)

a- A source transmits 5 independent alphabet letters in binary code. The probability of
occurrence of The five letters are:

P(A) = 0.7, P(B) = 0.2, P(C) = 0.06, P(D) = 0.04

a.1. Use the Huffman code, to determine the binary code / letter.
a.2. Calculate the entropy H of the source. Compare H with the average number of bits /
letter after encoding.

b- After the source coding, the binary sequence is coded by Hamming code characterized
the following generating matrix G:

1 0 0 0 1 1 1 1
G= 
0 1 1 1 1 1 0 0

b.1. Give all the words of this code.

b.2. How many errors per word can be detected? How many errors can it correct?
b.3. Give the binary sequence coding the word BACD.
b.4. Decode the binary sequence 000011110111110000110000.
