One popular application of the 555 timer IC is as an astable multivibrator that normally be used to generate a
square waveform. By using the given table of common resistor and capacitor values, design an astable
multivibrator with the following circuit parameters:

 LM555CM timer
 +VCC = +5.5 V
 fo = 5kHz
 thigh ratio of 75%

a) In designing the astable multivibrator circuit,

(i) calculate all the R and C values.

(ii) draw the output waveform.
[3 marks]
(iii) draw the waveform across C.
[3 marks]
b) By using Multisim simulation,
(i) Construct the designed astable multivibrator circuit.
[2 marks]
(ii) Show the capacitor and output waveforms resulting from the circuit by using the
oscilloscope provided in the Multisim.
[6 marks]
(iii) From the output waveform obtained in (b)(ii), determine the time intervals during which the
output is high and low.
[4 marks]
(iv) Verify the designed circuit and discuss your findings.
