Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Each slide is categorized by animal and contains the same information
on each slide in order to make sure students are able to stay focused and understand how each animal is
similar and different.

Lesson idea implementation: Teachers will create a PowerPoint presentation for the class that discusses
different types of animals along with where they are located, the environment in which they live, their outer
covering- scales, fur, etc., how they carry their babies, and interesting facts about the animal. At the end of
the presentation, a picture of each animal will reappear and the student will name one fact about them that
was just discussed. These prompts remembering and understanding of what is being taught.
This lesson idea can be introduced before different lessons like habitat, environments, the domain of
life/how they are characterized. This way the students will start off with a general idea about what is going to
be taught and can get ideas and questions flowing. The final project will be assessed with how many
questions they answer/research about the animal, the accuracy of the facts, and if they follow the rubric
guidelines. The teacher will give feedback to students by writing on the rubric and grading them. Only positive
feedback should be given to student after presenting.

Reflective Practice: After the lesson, students will pick an animal that they want to research. The research will
be done in class and the product will be done outside of class. No animal can be chosen twice. The student
has the option of making a PowerPoint presentation, poster board, etc., for this presentation. They will
present to the class what they have learned about the animal, following the rubric guidelines that the teacher
creates. This demonstrates that the students can follow instructions, research a topic, and present their
understanding of the topic to the class.
