PERIOD OF ACTIVITY 1 WEEK

TITLE ELECRICAL SUPPLY – DOMESTIC WIRING AND ACCESSORIES

1.1 Introduction
In this laboratory activity students will be exposed to understand the
concept and principles how the electricity is supply to a house and the
accessories required in securing safety protection and control.

1.2 Objective
The objective of this laboratory session is:
To study the basic concepts and principles in electrical supply of
domestic house and fulfill all the regulations required.

1.3 Learning Outcomes

At the end of the laboratory activities, students would be able to:
1. Acquire understanding of basic concepts and principles in electrical
supply of domestic house.
PREAMBLE 2. Apply the knowledge and familiar with the equipment and operation.
3. Able to check the safety of the premises.

1.4 Theoretical Background

Electricity is generated at the power plant and transmitted via
overhead cable on pylon to the transmission station where a
transformer changes to the required voltage. For domestic supply, the
secondary distribution substation further step-down from the 11KV to
415/240V. One phase which can be from red, yellow or blue (Life
wires) and one from neutral cable to become a single phase of 240V
entering a house. (Neutral link and cut out)
The current flow in the electrical system is always very hazardous and
involves high risk. The wrong wire connection can lead to the serious
damage by way of electrical shock circuit. Various safety, protection
and control are installed to protect the conductors, equipment and
consumers. Each premises is required to submit schematic wiring
diagram to the TNB for the electrical supply.

Check the safety, protection and control of an individual household.
